According to the blurb in PC Magazine, the BookDrive (from ATIZ Innovation), will cost only $35,000, weighs 55 pounds, can handle Encyclopedia-size volumes, turns pages reliably and without leaving residue, and can scan 500 pages/hour in fl and white (and half that in color).
If this catches on, and similar units become available for a thousand or two, it won't be long before the world's entire collection of printed materials becomes fodder for scanning, OCR'ing, and distributing.
