	GENUKI: Armitage
		Armitage forms three-fifths of the parish and was formerly called Hermitage, from a tradition that a hermit anciently resided in a sequestered spot between the church and the Trent.
		Handsacre, or Hansacre, is a pleasant hamlet about one mile E of Armitage and four miles N by W of Lichfield, where there is a station on the North Staffordshire Railway.
		Verdon's Manor was a part of Handsacre, which formerly belonged to the Verdon family, and was granted in 1318 to Sir Robt.

		Something of a rarity in Staffordshire, this Great Grey Shrike attracted plenty of attention from local birders when it arrived in late December at an area of marshland adjacent to the river Trent near Handsacre.
		An aggressive hunter for its size (about the same size as a flbird), the Great Grey Shrike will prey on small birds and mammals which it will occasionally impale on a thorn or spike before eating.
		This bird was also observed hovering in a manner similar to a Kestrel, but closer to the ground.

	BirdForum - It's a new year
		Once again all the birds will be new ticks for me. Usually I start my year in Norfolk but this time I elected to start local in the hope that I would start my new year off with the Great grey Shrike at Handsacre, a bird I saw on Xmas day.
		We started out (Ros, I and the two dogs) at just after 07:30 and our first bird of the year was a Magpie seen near to where I work in Minworth on the A38.
