Hanfeizi, the paradigm legalist, wrote one of the earliest commentaries on the Laozi (purportedly the basic classic of Daoism).
As Hanfeizi develops Shen Dao's theory, it includes techniques to enhance that natural charisma by elevating the throne, requiring ritual kneeling, kowtowing, debasing forms of address and severe punishment for looking directly into his face, publicizing stories of his strength, accomplishment and skill.
Hanfeizi also ties it to Laozi's doctrine of taking "no deliberate action." The ruler maintains his situational authority by not expressing desires or decisions, by remaining aloof and mysterious as he observes the process of official decision making.

 Hanfeizi
Hanfeizi, also called Hanzi, is the work of Han Fei (c.280-233BC), who was a great master of the Legalists of the Warring States Period (475-221BC), and was the disciple of Xunzi (so did Li Si).
In 234 BC, when Han Fei served Qin State as an envoy abroad, he was put to prison by Li Si and forced to suicide by taking poison afterward.
He thought that with the development of the situation, the society and the politics must change correspondingly, and the Confucian idea of returning to the ancients and resuming the Zhou Ceremony could not adapt to the situation.

Explain how Confucius, Hanfeizi, and Laozi believed an orderly society could be achieved.
Confucius argued that people were basically good and could be led by virtuous example.
Hanfeizi of the Legalism school of thought believed that people were basically evil and had to be controlled by strict laws.

SEP: Significance and Chronology of the Triads: A Supplement to Mohism
The most important of these are the "three factions" theory, A. Graham's modified version of the three factions theory, and the "successive revision" theory.
In fact, however, the only reason to suppose there were originally three complete, linguistically distinct series of essays is the Hanfeizi comment about the Mohists splitting into three factions.
But no evidence -- in the Hanfeizi or elsewhere -- actually connects these three factions to the triads, and other evidence from the Zhuangzi and Lushi Chunqiu suggests that there may in fact have been six or more groups of Mohists, not three.
