I was born in Kyoto and raised in other place.
Mother is a big influence of child's growth process, so my language was ruled by mother's language, Kyoto dialect in spite of living in non-Kyoto dialect region.
I like their Kyoto Style Ankake-udon(Thick soup with ginger), but I don't recommend it if you are neko-jita*.

 My first trip to Kyoto
I took the Osaka subway to Umeda and hopped on the Hankyu Kyoto Line.
I then took the Hankyu line to Katsura station and changed to the Hankyu Arashiyama line to Arashiyama station.
It meets in front of the Kyoto Station in the sunken garden each Monday, Weds, and Friday and costs only 2000 Yen which includes a piece of sushi about half way into the tour and a tea and pastry at a teahouse.

We stayed at the Kyoto Gardens Hotel in Kyoto which whilst extremely small, was relatively cheap at around $105 Australian.
Near the Kyoto station is this small and friendly ryokan.
The open-air bath is super, and purportedly good for weariness of the body, etc. For dinner, Ohara-no Sato serves their popular miso-nabe hot pot which is highly recommended.

The name Hankyu comes from the second character of Osaka(大阪),阪; which has a meaning of hill, and the character 急 meaning express.
The Foxfield Railway was constructed in 1893 to carry coal from Foxfield Colliery to the North Staffordshire Railway at Blythe Bridge.
Following the closure of the colliery in 1965 the line was rescued by the volunteers of the Foxfield Light Railway Society, who today operate the line as a passenger-carrying railway.The railway was built at minimum cost to the mine owners and hence steep gradients and sharp bends abound.
