Another trademark of the Takarazuka, the silver bridge is used in much of the performance blocking and in the finale to allow those in the front seats a very up-close look at the stars.
This is not an official Takarazuka term, but there are some fans who feel that the term "musumeyaku" implies a sort of inferiority and prefer to refer to them as "onnayaku", a term that is more equivalent to "otokoyaku".

Though Takarazuka incorporates many elements of western theater (at the time of writing, the main theater was hosting a performance of Guys and Dolls), it retains strong Japanese elements.
Takarazuka was founded in the city of the same name in 1913 by Kobayashi Ichizo, the president of Hankyu Railways.
The city was the terminus of a Hankyu line from Osaka and famous for its hot springs.

 Time to burn a fortune.
Hankyu Umeda is a rather confusing station sometimes because there are three different lines leaving from the same huge platform and some of them have local and express versions of the same line.
JR also has large amounts of lines coming together in Osaka but each line's platform is separated and clearly marked.
Hankyu's trains are not so clearly separated and are fairly clearly marked but I clearly was in another universe when I was choosing express trains this evening.

There are a couple of atmospheric temples in the hills around Takarazuka that merit a look as part of a day-trip to the spa town.
The long slope leading up to the temple from the station is lined with stalls selling souvenirs and traditional sweets, and each autumn the woods surrounding Kojin-san, as it's nicknamed, burst into a range of rustic colours.

The JR line bound for Amagasaki was closed for the day; commuters were directed to use the Hankyu Line going in that direction instead - on my way to Kyoto this evening I noticed that passengers were allowed to use their JR commuter train passes to reach home.
I travel on this train line nearly every time I visit and to know a train that I had once travelled on is involved in such a severe crash is upsetting.

Apparently, other than the line work, we found out later that there had also been a problem which has brought down the overhead wires, so there were no trains going to the city at all.
From Osaka, we took the Loop line to Morinomiya, and after a little confused walking around, found the Hotel we were staying at.
At the end of the line, you change to a cable car, which takes you up higher and higher, and eventually you reach the beginning of a series of ropeways that take you over the top of the the mountain, and down to the lake on the other side.

From Ishibashi station we took the Hankyu Takarazuka line and then transferred to the JR Takarazuka line at Kawanishi-Noseguchi.
The trail itself is actually an old rail line that follows the course of the river.
Of course, when groups of children were involved you would see their flashlights bobbing rapidly as they ran (far too fast for safety, of course, but with no scrapes) until they ran past, giggling and delightedly shouting.
