  review of Sluga
Hans Sluga's Heidegger's Crisis: Philosophy and Politics in Nazi Germany.
Sluga turned away from the early influences of Oskar Becker and Heidegger and shifted to Gottlob Frege, only to discover that even Frege was not above the taint of nationalism and antisemitism.
Sluga does an admirable job of maintaining the balance between this larger objective and the vast array of details in his narrative of the historical aspects of German philosophy.

On this reading the American intellectual tradition was fractured at the point that a group of mitteleuropean, and mostly Jewish, thinkers (e.g., Rudolf Carnap, Herbert Feigl, Carl Hempel, Hans Reichenbach and Otto Neurath) -- who were a part of the Vienna Circle -- migrated to the United States to escape persecution by the Third Reich.
In 1991 he had occasion to make a presentation that included both the Notes and his afterthoughts concerning them but it was not until the Spring of 1993 that he began to recall his earliest thoughts on the Investigations.

Hans Sluga studied Philosophy in Munich and Oxford (under the supervison of Michael Dummett) and later acted as a Lecturer at the University College London.
Hans Sluga is very well-known because of his many influential papers on the philosophy of Gottlob Frege (including his book Gottlob Frege, London 1980) and on the thinking and its development of Ludwig Wittgenstein (cf.
Sluga then continued on scrutinizing ›the political‹ and is currently finishing a new monograph with the working title Uncertainty and the Care of the Common.

"[Sluga] is much less concerned with proving to himself or to others that Heidegger's soul was saved, and instead he sets himself the laudable task of clarifying the political, institutional, and philosophical context in which it all happened.
Rather, Sluga maintains, it is the outlook and presuppositions of an entire generation that demand our most urgent scrutiny and, when found guilty, our repudiation...Lynching Heidegger is academic scapegoating in the worst sense, for it is nothing other than a diversionary tactic for evading intellectual responsibility."
But Sluga is a philosopher and hears the voice of reason.

Gottlob Frege on Being, Existence, and Truth
Hans Slugs has challenged on a large scale the received view of Frege as a lonely figure in nineteenth-century philosophy whose ancestry goes to medieval objectivists rather than his German predecessors.
Sluga's influence is illustrated amply in several papers in this volume.

The Cambridge Companion to Wittgenstein (Cambridge Companions to Philosophy) by Hans D. Sluga [ISBN: 0521460255] - Find ...
"Any attempt at a definitive exposition of his ideas would be doomed to failure," according to editor Hans Sluga; therefore, the Cambridge Companion to Wittgenstein is intended mainly "to alert readers to some of the most important and most interesting issues raised in Wittgenstein's philosophical writings." For the most part, the 14 essays succeed.
With the exception of Thomas Ricketts's discussion of the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, the focus of the essays is on Wittgenstein's later work, particularly the Philosophical Investigations.
Sulga explores how Wittgenstein's analysis of language led him to a rejection of Cartesian substantialism - or the idea that consciousness, the soul, or the mind, was an immaterial substance - a "soul atamon" as Nietzsche would put it - tethered to a physical body and capable of existing independently of that body.

Janus Head/Frank Edler/Alfred Baeumler on Holderlin and the Greeks
Yet after a review of the material on Heidegger's political involvement, I find very little written on his relationship with Alfred Baeumler, noting the exception of Hans Sluga, Gail Soffer, and David Farrell Krell.1 As far as I can determine, there are no essays devoted solely to Heidegger and Baeumler.
Hans Sluga provides the best overview of Baeumler to date in Heidegger’s Crisis.
I disagree with Sluga’s claim that Heidegger, Baeumler, and Krieck formed an alliance in 1933-34.
