This capital was maintained until it was seized, together with the Han River valley, by Goguryeo in 475 CE.
The Hanseong location provided a basis for control over the fertile Han River valley, at a time when Baekje was just emerging as a power among the Mahan states.

Hanseong was recorded frequently as the capital of Baekje in Samguk sagi after Baekje was founded in Hanam Wyryeseong.
If Hanseong was made by putting Pungnap-ri earthen castle and Mongchon earthern castle together, from the condition of natural features of the place we can think that the central town was in Pungnap-ri earthen castle or in the east of it.
Moreover, under this condition Hanseong, the capital of Baekje was far from a capital which was composed in order by urban planning.

It could take a while for the new Chinese name for the capital of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to catch on among common Chinese.
The nation has known the Korean city of Seoul as "Hancheng" (or Hanseong in Korean) for centuries, and it will not be easy for Chinese to adopt the use of "Shouer" as its new name, said Zhao Rixin, a Beijing Language and Culture University professor said Thursday.
"It is a general perception in the world community and an international practice to call the capital city Seoul, not Hanseong," Mayor Lee Myung-Bak said at a news conference in Seoul on Wednesday.

It Makes a Difference to the Sheep: MORE CULTURAL POLITICS
I've never seen it mentioned that there'd been any confusion with 'Hanguo' and 'Hancheng', and neither have I seen any consideration for the Chinese pronunciation of the characters.
(As the article later notes, it's all about the 'han' character being different.) The confusion that has arised in the use of Chinese is that between Korean institutions which use the word 'Hanseong' and those which have 'Seoul' in their name.
So mail intended for Seoul National University has ended up in Hansung U. The question of national pride and "identity" was admitted back in March(?) 2004 when the renaming committee was installed, but relating it that strongly to the Goguryeo thing is a bit far-fetched.
