Hansford County, FIPSCODE 48195, is the 199th largest of the 254 counties in Texas, with an estimated population of 5,369 in 2000.
The county's population was 5,848 in 1990 and 5,369 in 2000, an increase of -479.

Hansford lost population and businesses to Spearman when the railroad arrived in late 1919, and more importantly, an election (1929) deciding which town would be the county seat.
All that remains of Hansford today is the cemetery which up until 1928 was the only cemetery in the county.

He became a sales agent for the ranch holdings of R. Thomson and R. Anderson in Hansford County, Texas, and placed advertisements in several leading Norwegian-language publications in the Midwest, including the Skandinaven, edited by his father-in-law, Nicolay A. Grevstad.
