Bamboo lemur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lesser gentle lemur and bamboo lemur are the common names for the lemurs in genus Hapalemur.
In addition, they live on the ground and in the trees; they are good at both running on land and climbing and jumping through the trees.
The lesser gentle lemurs live together in groups of three to five animals, which probably represent families composed of a male, one or two females and their offspring.

 Nando Peretti Foundation
Concern for the status of the two critically endangered lemur species (golden bamboo lemur, Hapalemur aureus, and greater bamboo lemur, H. simus) motivated ICTE to search for additional populations of these species in parts of Ranomafana National Park that had not yet been surveyed.
Hapalemur feeding remains were found as close as 20m from the edge of the forest.
As several lemur species (including Hapalemur aureus) were seen within the peripheral zone, work should continue to determine the distribution of lemur groups within the forest, with the possible extension of the park boundaries to better protect especially rare or vulnerable species.

Changes were sometimes noticed in the third base of the codon in these positions, but the amino acid remains the same so that the functionality of the cytochrome b is not affected.
Despite the fact that we analysed only short sequences, the genetic distances are considered to be relevant because of the large number of animals involved, since large sample size reduces errors in the estimation of evolutionary relatedness [11,21].

Three species of Hapalemur (Primates) coexist in a rainforest in Madagascar, where they subsist on different parts of an unusual food resource, bamboo.
Toward these goals, our research investigates whether the observed dietary differences among Hapalemur species are solely related to behavioral aspects of food choice or whether they are also linked to variation in the form and performance of the masticatory apparatus.
Specifically, our project examines: 1) whether the segregation or overlap of Hapalemur diets can be linked to variation in plant properties, 2) whether these plant properties are correlated with variation in dental and jaw morphology, and 3) whether morphological differences translate into performance differences in biting and chewing behaviors among species.

Use of total dietary fiber across four lemur species (Propithecus verreauxi coquereli, Hapalemur griseus griseus, Varecia variegata, and Eulemur fulvus): Does fiber type affect digestive efficiency?
Campbell JL, Williams CV, Eisemann JH In vivo digestibility and transit of two experimental diets were compared across four lemur species for which gastrointestinal morphology and preliminary data on physiology differ:Varecia variegata (VV), Eulemur fulvus (EF), Propithecus verreauxi (PV), and Hapalemur griseus (HG).
Since free-ranging groups consume varied amounts of slowly fermentable insoluble fiber (IF) and rapidly fermentable soluble fiber (SF), differences in digestibility may be related to variation in the fiber types consumed.
