Happy Days - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Happy Days is a popular United States television sitcom that originally aired between 1974 and 1984 on the ABC television network.
It began as an unsold pilot called "Love and the Happy Days" that was originally presented on the television anthology series Love, American Style, with Harold Gould in the roll of Howard Cunningham, Marion Ross as Marion, Ron Howard as Richie, Anson Williams as Potsie.
Happy Days became one of the first series to have earlier seasons syndicated while the series itself was still producing new episodes (a common practice with long-running shows today).

"Happy Days are Here Again" would also become the theme song for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's 1932 inauguration - and was synonymous (with its upbeat tempo and cheerful lyrics) with the promised emergence from the Depression and Roosevelt's New Deal - and has remained the theme song for the Democratic Party ever since.
Happy days are here again, the skies above are clear again, so let's sing a song of cheer again, happy days are here again.
"Happy Days Are Here Again" would remain a popular refrain throughout the decade as the theme of radio shows sponsored by Lucy Strike cigarettes, and it had a second cinematic life in the film "Thanks A Million" (Twentieth Century Fox, 1935).

But there was still something endearing and enduring about the lighthearted 1950s nostalgia of "Happy Days," even if the show did eventually become the source for a whimsically derisive, 21st-Century pop culture punch line: "Jump the shark." More about that in a few moments.
And the series established the TV timing template for nostalgia comedy, with the 1950s of "Happy Days" arriving in the '70s, the 1960s of "The Wonder Years" during the '80s and the '70s of "That '70s Show" in the 1990s.
But even though "Happy Days" is unlikely to ever wind up on any TV critic's list of Top 10 Classic Sitcoms, "The Happy Days 30th Anniversary Reunion" does remind us why the show charmed America.

Published 6/16/2003 6:11 PM WASHINGTON, June 16 (UPI) -- As legend has it, the song "Happy days are here again" became the theme tune of Franklin Roosevelt's 1932 Presidential campaign, and then inspired the American people to regain their confidence and slough off the Great Depression.
Once the market has reached an appropriate level (find a 70 year old banker, too old to have been involved in the bubble, to tell you when this is, but it will be at a somewhat LOWER valuation level than was common before the bubble) they will cut interest rates sharply and cut taxes.
Happy days will not return for the U.S. economy until the twin imbalances, of overvalued stock prices (which must halve from current levels) and an unsustainable trade deficit have been worked out of the system.
