	Guy Picciotto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Rites of Spring, along with Embrace, (though there were other bands involved in Revolution Summer) are widely credited with creating the sub-genre of punk rock which would come to be known as Emo, though they would surely distance themselves from that label.
		Picciotto's musical resume also includes the bands One Last Wish (1986), Happy Go Licky (1987 - 1988), Brief Weeds (Ep's released circa 1991 - 1992), and The Black Light Panthers (ongoing sporadic project since 1982), the last two bands both being projects with Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty.
		He also created a record label called Peterbilt Records, which released limited quantity vinyl record albums for the bands Rain, Happy Go Licky, and Deadline, then years later was involved in releasing the One Last Wish, 1986 CD, along with Dischord Records.

		Brendan Canty (born March 9, 1966 in Teaneck, New Jersey) is a musician, and is best known as the drummer in the band Fugazi.
		Canty joined Fugazi in 1987, before which time he played with fellow Fugazi band member Guy Picciotto in Rites of Spring, One Last Wish, Deadline, Insurrection, and Happy Go Licky.
		In between Fugazi tours, Canty frequently composes soundtrack music, primarily for Discovery Channel and The Learning Channel documentaries.

		Before joining Happy Go Licky, Guy worked with musical startup One Last Wish, where his accomplishments included the establishment of a North American headquarters and significant exposure building in the channel.
		It was a really weird era because you had a lot of people who — there was this weird kind of fallout where hardcore had gotten so twisted by the time it disseminated around the country, it had become just stupid and violent and it was kind of a drag.

		Plus Happy Go Licky doesn't sound a bit like Rites Of Spring, which makes their moniker decision all the more sensical.
		Happy Go Licky of Rites of Spring fame did not play very much punk or emo.
		Their forward-thinking innovation would have benefitted immeasurably from a bit of audio clarity, plus they probably wouldn't have dragged the songs on for so damn interminably long in the studio environment.

		There was no plan to keep the label going after that but the HGL record made some minor amount of money so it occurred to me that i could use that to put out a tape by the old DC band Deadline that had never come out.
		One was a more complete overview of the Happy Go Licky live tapes, the other was a One Last Wish Cd (another forgotten tape that had never come out).
		Guy: The tradition of weird packaging came about because when we were doing the first HGL 12" we were wracking our brain to think of a way to make a super cheap sleeve that didn't look like everything else.

		It's a common belief that labs are dumb happy-go-lucky licky dogs, whereas herding dogs like the border collie are intelligent thinking dogs.
		Considering that Droopy most likely had some of each and was quite fond of licking any faces found in close proximity to his mouth, we weren't sure whether we had a smart dog or just a plain ol' goofy dog.

		Since I started playing in groups, every time one fell apart I was always determined to start another one as soon as possible - It was like jumping from one stone to another to get across a river.
		I think I was at a point where I really wanted to be in a group that lasted longer than just a year, or so as well as one that would tour a lot, something I hadn't really done in the past.
		We had no idea that it would turn into such a large project - at first it was just going to be some live pieces, but gradually it became a much more ambitious film and it started to incorporate a lot more elements than just concert footage.

		It serves as a reminder that this is all live, of the moment, and off the cuff.

		Go buy that and Banned In DC, they cover just about everything important.
		The tendency when dealing with the band is either to let them off the hook without so much as a discouraging word, or just absolutely crucify the band.
		Have the dubious distinction of the worst of the Dischord hardcore releases (worst Dischord release of all, however is a much tougher debate--Embrace or limp-wristed Half-Japanese wannabes Happy Go Licky get my votes).
