When we picked up the children in the afternoon, we went for a walk to Harajuku station and to the Yoyogi park which is where the famous Meiji shrine is, so close to where we are, and yet not visited.
Across from the station in Shibuya is a shopping center, which is so intense with the noise from different shops, the people trying to hand you slips of paper, the massive television screens mounted on the buildings and above all with the mass of people going every which way that it is quite overwhelming.

OK, upon exiting Harajuku station there is a street that you will see runs parallel to the tracks.
Harajuku by the way is right next to Meiji Shrine, Omotesando (Tokyo`s Rodeo Drive or High Street), and Takeshita-dori (teenager`s mecca) so there`s plenty of sightseeing to be had there too.
If you are coming from Shinjuku or Ikebukuro, ride on the back car of the train, if you are coming from the Tokyo station side ride on the front car (to put you close to the right exit).

Yoko, who today is a sort of manga heroine cum punk queen, says she keeps the more outrageous parts of her wardrobe-the wigs and some of the jewelry - hidden from her parents and only completes her costume in the toilets of Harajuku Station just beforehand.
The noise may have gone but the somewhat screw-loose spirit lives on in the bizarre fashion parade cum street performance of the teenage madonnas now resident outside the main entrance to Meiji Shrine, between Yoyogi park and Harajuku Station.
In effect these artists, models, or whatever they are, do little more than every other teenager in Harajuku on a Sunday: shop and then chill out and giggle with their friends.

you probably know this already, but Harajuku station is where all the Harajuku goth kids hang out (actually on the bridge over the railway tracks above the station, that leads to the Meiji-ju shrine).
Gwen Stefani's recent song and multiple mentions of the aformentioned Harajuku girls throughout her new solo album has had an odd numbing effect on my want or need to research what, exactly, a Harajuku girl is? In fact, I would possibly pay money for a version of this album without the word Harajuku in it.
At any rate, Harajuku is a popular shopping district that is the center of individual and unique styles that are showcased in several Japanese magazines - two more well known magazines being FRUiTS and the Gothic Lolita Bible.

Harajuku is the kind of place that should cause fashion designers to drop Tokyo from their New York, Paris, London, Tokyo collections.
Harajuku is so famous now, that it feels like there are more foreigners with cameras (myself included) than Japanese people.
But while many people now consider it a bit passé to make fun of Harajuku fashions, what these people are forgetting is that it’s also incredibly fun.

 Museums of Shibuya, Harajuku
Getting There: Shibuya station: around 10 minutes getting there, the museum is basically 5 minutes behind Bunkamura, uphill. It is marked on the "Tourist Museum of Tokyo"( the free one from the tourist office).
Bunkamura is on every map worth having, the museum says it is 7 minutes from the station.
A display room that appears unfinished displays unimpressive examples of western art, a Duchamp complexity at one end they appear over-enamoured of, it also featuring in their virtual museum, but above all oriental art from Ming China through Korea to Yayoi Japan that is passable and interesting.
