Buchanan is home to the old Haralson County Courthouse that is standing in the center of its square.
The courthouse which epitomizes the Victorian period was built in 1891-92 and is a picturesque agglomeration of towers, turrets, arches, differing wall surfaces, and windows in a variety of sizes and shapes.
The courthouse now houses the Haralson County Historical Society, which was formed in 1973 to save the old Courthouse from demolition, and thus preserve an important part of Buchanan's heritage.
