 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Johnny Thunder
Aside from being a harbinger of a new comic book genre, which would become important for DC (and comics in general) during the 1950s, Johnny was a harbinger of a practice that became increasingly prevalent at DC during the 1950s, '60s and beyond — naming new characters after old ones.
During the late 1940s, DC Comics, like the rest of the comic book industry, was turning away from the superheroes that had sustained it practically …
When "Johnny Thunder" is mentioned in a DC comic, it's usually the idiot from the back pages of Flash Comics.

Meanwhile, the mysterious being known as the Monitor decides the time to act is now, and so he bestows part of his power on his young assistant, the woman known as Harbinger.
Meanwhile, a pre-recorded message made by the Monitor explains to Pariah and Harbinger (who is now free of the Anti-Monitor's control) that he was aware of his eventual death, and he took steps to put it to good use.

 The Crisis on Infinite Earths
In the real world, DC Comics first came to prominence in the 1940s, when hundreds of new heroes from dozens of comic companies joined Superman (1938) and Batman (1939) in the fight against evil.
Charlton was a separate comics company before DC bought the rights to its characters.
Meanwhile, a pre-recorded message made by the Monitor explains to Pariah and Harbinger (who is now free of the Anti-Monitor's control) that he was aware of his eventual death, and he took steps to put it to good use.

Narrated by Harbinger (a central figure from CRISIS), HISTORY brings readers back through time and space to the dawn of creation, and continues on to the end of recorded history — as Harbinger reveals "the History of Heroism." Featuring an appearance by virtually every character in the DC Universe of that time!
Though not one of DC Comics' BIG THREE characters (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman), Hawkman has been a fascinating, enduringly popular superhero for almost 60 years now.
In the hands of these creators, Hawkman was as exciting and compelling a figure in DC's 1960's era as any other character they published, and that mystique is a primary reason why DC has never completely given up on their attempts to revive Hawkman many times in the years since.

IGN: Brain Trust #4: Countdown to Infinite Patience
As we all know, dead is not necessarily dead when it comes to comics, and a harbinger is often open to various interpretations.
B.R. Salazar: Countdown To Infinite Crisis took a second-tier character in The Blue Beetle, who previously in the DC Universe had always been portrayed as little more than a laughable looser, and gave him a depth the likes of which he had never seen.
While it is hard to say without having read Infinite Countdown, I get the feeling that when it is all over I would have preferred a Blue Beetle mini-series written as well as this story, rather than the 30 or so comics that will collectively make up this event.

 Harbinger - Enpsychlopedia
"Harbinger" is also the name of a character in DC Comics' Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Throughout history and literature, harbingers and omens figure prominently, and are responsible for major decisions which have altered the course of both.
Biblical prophecy is also distinct from harbingers, in the sense that the foretelling comes by the spoken word (often attributed directly to God), and not in the manifestation of signs.

The Unofficial Comics Crossover Index - Crisis on Infinite Earths
The plot as such is simple: Harbinger, in the aftermath of the Crisis, attempts to chronicle every historical event in the DC Universe, from the dawn of creation to the end of time.
Never before had any comic publisher swept away 50 years of history to restart the universe.
A notable epilogue to the Crisis series is The History of the DC Universe (1986), a post-Crisis, two-volume chronology of the DC Universe, written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by George Perez.

NEWSARAMA - "BREACH"-ING THE DCU WITH BOB HARRAS
Breach is the brainchild of former Marvel Comic Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras who was asked by DC Comics to pitch a redesign for Captain Atom, who hasn’t had a solo regular series since 1991.
Keeping only the name, Harras would bring a totally fresh take on the character, something he was sure DC’s top brass wouldn’t go for.
Zanettihimself could be the harbinger of the destruction.

 WPage / The Annotated Crisis
was a 12-issue comic book maxi-series published in 1985 and 1986 in which DC Comics condensed their multiverse into a single universe, thus "simplifying" and "improving" it.
Only a few post-Golden Age comics were ever set there, notably
#94, which appeared at the very end of the Crisis, and featured Harbinger, Pariah, and Lady Quark.
