Topic: Harbinger (ENT episode)

Harbinger - Enpsychlopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Throughout history and literature, harbingers and omens figure prominently, and are responsible for major decisions which have altered the course of both.
In this case, the harbinger becomes a catalyst for the formation of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Biblical prophecy is also distinct from harbingers, in the sense that the foretelling comes by the spoken word (often attributed directly to God), and not in the manifestation of signs.

Harbinger (ENT episode) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Harbinger" is the title of an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, from the third season.
The episode was intended as a "breather" episode between major sections of the Xindi arc and is noted for introducing a sexual relationship between the characters of Trip Tucker and T'Pol.
The fourth season episode "Bound" would reveal that their single encounter had an unexpected side-effect.

Ex Astris Scientia - Star Trek Enterprise (ENT) Season 3, Part 2
The episode was devoid of the responsible and professional conduct as we should expect it from adults, most of all in Star Trek.
The episode even manages to completely redefine what a warp coil is. On any Federation ship, a warp coil is and always was a huge component inside a nacelle, and there are quite a lot of them necessary to propel the ship.
Not only does every recent episode have a recap, "The Forgotten" furthermore had Trip's already mentioned dream sequence about his sister and, in addition, Archer explained everything that had happened to Degra, which was done just too thoroughly, as if infrequent viewers were supposed to be kept updated in the first place.

What can you say about an episode where two characters have sex that is apparently so meaningless as to be inexplicable, while two other characters beat the living crap out of each other in a scene that looks like it belongs in 48 Hrs.
But no, because "Harbinger" is reckless at the expense of all credibility.
Note: This episode was re-rated from 1.5 to 2 stars when the season recap was written.

ST Universe Episode Review - Enterprise | Season 3 | Harbinger
This is, I believe, a first for “Enterprise” — an episode where the main focus is undeniably on the characters, rather than the “plot”.
Wow, what a change of pace this episode is. While the “revamped” third season has managed to do some really good plot-driven episodes, there hasn't really been much in the way of purely character-driven episodes — until now.
But the difference with this episode is that the alien sub-plot is just that — a “sub-plot”, secondary to the main events of the episode.

The episodes " Twilight ", " Proving Ground ", were well-received by fans, and the arc formed by the last seven episodes of the third season--" Azati Prime ", " Damage ", "The Forgotten," "E2," " The Council ", "Countdown" and "Zero Hour" in particular have received praise.
Prior to “Regeneration” (ENT), one could be content to speculate that reports of the Borg by the El Aurians rescued in “ Star Trek: Generations ” were filed away someplace, since they did not have visual records, proof, or possibly even detailed explanations of the people who they fled from.
Aside from complaints from some fans that such nudity was inappropriate for Star Trek, the episode was also scheduled to air not long after the Super Bowl XXXVIII controversy in which Janet Jackson "accidentally" exposed a breast on live TV, leading to a upswing in censorship in America.

While I have some problems with this episode, I will say this: There is no denying that it's loads of fun, and involving in an immediate way.
It's an episode where I honestly did not know how it was going to end (it doesn't end, actually, because it's a cliffhanger), and given recent anemic installments like " Hatchery " and " Harbinger," that's saying something.
But Daniels confirms suspicions we've had since "Harbinger," by explaining that the sphere-builders, for their own self-serving reasons, have manipulated the Xindi into their current mission to destroy Earth.

ST Universe Episode Review - Enterprise | Season 3 | Countdown
Hayes was another recurring character who'd been in a number of episodes, and I personally think it's a testimony to the character that he made such an impact on the show despite only appearing in five episodes.
So you can see what I mean — a large chunk of the episode felt like it was only there to stall the launch of the weapon, and the last ten minutes is spent planning everyone's assignments for the season finale — which results in an episode which definitely suffers from ‘middle chapter syndrome'.
However, the other elements of the episode are all terrific, and the upside of having all the various missions planned out ready for next week is that it means the season finale can be concerned with the execution of the missions, rather than their planning.

As more proof that B&B don't know what they're doing or where they're going with this story-arc, this episode's story was co-created by Manny Coto, who just only joined the show halfway through the season, after the ''story-arc'' had already been in play for ten episodes.
But don't you ever forget that the last time Enterprise sustained ANY battle damage that went beyond one episode, it was all magically repaired in the next episode.
But an episode after that is called ''E2'' and brings in what sounds like an identical Enterprise.

As for tonight's episode I guess I didn't really care much about the technical reasons why x y or z was happening, it was more of a light hearted "fun" episoden that while enjoyable probably won't register much in a few weeks but that doesn't make it bad.
While I agree that generally the episode was a "filler", one very important point came out - it is clear that the trans-dimensional aliens are going to be a big part of the rest of the season.

I know it isn't the popular thing to say around the ENT forum and I try to be understanding but I am truly looking forward to the finale.

I can see why Ent fans are pissed off with this and I'm sympathetic to a point, but if it's a crime to have Riker and Troi, then it's the ent producers weak notions of a fitting end, not TNG's fault.
