This image from the Library of Congress is titled The Hemlock Limited, bound for the woods, Harbor Springs, Mich. It was taken between 1900 and 1910.
Harbor Springs is obviously a vacation spot for the wealthy, with "cottages" like this.
Operations on the Harbor Springs Railway ended in 1911, and the railroad was dismantled in 1912.

 San Diego & Arizona Railway History
The San Diego and Arizona Railway Company had been incorporated secretly in June by John D. Spreckels, his brother Adolph B., they being the sons of Claus, the Sugar King of San Francisco; John D., Jr.; William Clayton and Harry L. Titus.
The rails were laid to Jacumba Hot Springs, 92 miles from San Diego, by July 18th and, on the eastern division, to the foot of the Gorge.
However, the development of Tijuana Hot Springs into the elaborate resort of Agua Caliente, the "Deauville of the Americas," including a new race track, resulted in the operation of two to six schedules to Agua Caliente with steam trains in addition from 1928 to the end of Prohibition in the United States.

 National Railway Museum Port Adelaide - Rail History
Railways became an integral part of the State controlled occupation of new lands and expansion of mining, farming and pastoralism, the mainstays of our early economy.
This was the first railway to be laid with iron rails in Australia and was opened on 18 May 1854.
This was perhaps inevitable once the Government repealed in 1963 the Road and Railways Transport Act of 1930, thus exposing the railways to intense competition from road transport.

 The Oahu Railway
One is the Oahu Railway and Land Conpany of Hawaii.
Carried by steamship from Pearl Harbor to Los Angeles Harbor, swung dramatically by crane from ship to shore, and trucked throught the streets of Los Angeles trailed by news film crews, the artifact's arrival from the then-territory of Hawaii was certainly the most Arduous and theatrical of Travel Town's acessions.
They became strictly a terminal operation, reorganized as the Oahu Railway and Terminal Warehouse Company in 1961; that same year a suit was settled with the State and almost all the old right-of-way reverted to State ownership.

Although his Railway was primarily constructed for logging, in the summer, vacationers were hauled for 25 cents a trip.

 Benton Harbor: Once a Rail Center
The point where the two branchs diverged coming out of Benton Harbor is near the Intersection of Pipestone Road and Empire Avenue and it is easy to see where the tracks where.
The current CSX rails through St. Joe are traced to the Pere Marquette Railway which was formed in 1900 from several roads including the Chicago & West Michigan Railway.
Benton Harbor was once the terminus of a 37.7 mile New York Central (Michigan Central) branch from Niles, Michigan.

The Ocean Springs Drug Store building of Herman Nill (1863-1904) situated on the northwest corner of Washington Avenue and Porter was destroyed in a large conflagration on December 2, 1900.
The Old Spanish Trail between Ocean Springs and Pascagoula was open for vehicular traffic in late April, with the exception of the underpass on the LandN Railroad at Hilda, west of Gautier.

Although Ocean Springs was never known as a schooner, building center, it is believed that several of these craft may have been built here, probably on Fort Bayou for the charcoal trade.
Ocean Springs because of its small population and paucity of commercial waterfront acreage due to ownership by wealthy bay front landowners from New Orleans and the Midwest, never developed a large commercial seafood industry.
Solicitors for Ocean Springs argued that this right was granted only for the lifetime of Antonio Catchot, and that this condition was forfeited upon his death in 1885.
