  GOPUSA - David Horowitz
One of the hard left's survival secrets has been its ability to embargo attempts to identify it by labeling those who do "red-baiters" and "witch-hunters," as though even to name it is to persecute it.
Even in the hard left, the Communist Party USA is only a constituent part of the whole whereas once, along with its front groups, it dominated progressive politics.
It was the necessary premise of its re-emergence as leader of the anti-globalization and "antiwar" movements that came at the end of the Nineties and the beginning of the millennium.

icWales - Callaghan proved Labour's hard-left to be wrong   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
He was the target for years of bitter denunciation, even revulsion, from the left over his moderate policies, but subsequent events demonstrated he was right and they were wrong.
Callaghan refused to despair even when, in the early 1980s, Labour was in such turmoil and in the vice-grip of militancy that the party seemed totally unelectable and even on the brink of extinction.
He was hated and reviled by the left, but eventually the party came round to his way of thinking.

Louis is in the center, Schmeling slightly towards his own corner and they stand there feinting with their left hands, and sparring around, and Louis lashed out with a light left to the body and Schmeling backed away and let him have a left in return.
Schmeling with a hard left to Louis' body and he brought over two hard rights and Louis let him have a hard left hook to the jaw to turn Schmeling around, and once more they're over on the other side of the ring.
Louis hooked a hard left to Schmeling's body and came over with a right, then a left to Schmeling's face and Schmeling goes round and is backed away to Louis' corner.

The left has decided that democracy is not worth fighting for, much less dying for, all the while protesting at the top of their lungs those who are bringing freedom and liberty to those who were once oppressed...We live in an interesting time.
The hard left is a much smaller and more vocal group than the liberal/soft left, but it's the latter who constitute the bulk of Americans who oppose the war.
Many on the hard left probably fit Varifrank's description of their position, but those on the soft left and those who are liberals (the two groups shade into each other) are operating somewhat differently, in my opinion.

 Left-Handed Writers
While just over ten percent of Americans are left handed, they represent a disproportionate number of fountain pen users (at least from the perspective of The Nib Works.) This may at first glance seem strange, given the difficulty that they have using fountain pens.
Cursive western writing is performed from left to right and, because they tend to dig into the paper more when they are pushed, fountain pens are harder to push than to pull.
One lefty told me that she chose to write with her left hand when she was confronted with the prospect of being in a class of first graders who were all writing alike.

In Hard Left, he presents an impassioned polemic that will shape the Democratic platform and the political debate at the Summer 1996 Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

Hard Left is a clarion call to liberal politicians and leaders to take their heads out of the sand, tear a page out of the conservative playbook, and counter the conservative offensive by tackling the political and racial issues that go to the core of our society.

I would regard we of the libertarian/conservative side to be revolutionary, as opposed to the current left; the left wants to maintain the status quo of statism and welfarism, and increase government's intrusion and supervision of society.
The Left is relatively united on immigration (more), multiculturalism (good), free speech (bad), and identity politics (subsidise), so they will not be faced with any major problems in the years ahead, assuming they are not forced to actually defend their positions in a federal election.

Obviously, when terror-hugging radicals like Ramsey Clark and Communist hacks like Angela Davis are referred to as "liberals" — as they routinely are — the obfuscation works to their advantage and against the interests of veracity and democracy.
Like the Communist Party in the heyday of the Soviet empire, the influence of the hard left —intellectually and organizationally — extends far beyond the institutions, organizations and publications it controls.
David Horowitz is the author of numerous books including an autobiography, Radical Son, which has been described as “the first great autobiography of his generation,” and which chronicles his odyssey from radical activism to the current positions he holds.

He is not a toady of the Establishment, not a lover of the status quo: he drove home the point last February in "Laureate's Block", a poem published in the Guardian which attacked the monarchy, the literary establishment, and Blair's government.
If "v." was Harrison's first public poem as "laureate of the hard left", then three filmed poems, "The Gaze of the Gorgon" (1992), "The Shadow of Hiroshima" (1995) and Prometheus (1998), established his credentials further.
These attempts to explain the atrocities of the 20th century were muddled and labyrinthine and his targets obvious ones: Nazi Germany, the United States and imperial Japan, and the evil, brainwashing ways of capitalism.
