These mountains are very impressive to look at from the Sørfjorden side, but less prominent from the Hardangerfjorden side.
The neat thing about this ridge is that you can see both Hardangerfjorden and Sørfjorden.
The saddle is found E of Lake Revavatnet (which drains towards Hardangerfjorden).

In addition to being one of the greatest viewpoints in Hardangerfjorden, Samlen is also a highly characteristic and amusing mountain.
Samlen is located between Utne and Jondal and opposite to Fyksesundet on the other side of Hardangerfjorden.
To the south, west and north, Hardangerfjorden lies before your feet.

The America's Cup Races in the 1930's were dominated by American boats owned by George (Mike) Vanderbilt and manned by a significant number of Norwegian-Americans, many from the small island of Tysness just south of Bergen in the mouth of the Hardangerfjorden.
It is surprising that such a small population of a small island in a small country could have played such a major role in the America's Cup Competitions.
I hope you enjoyed your visit, gained an appreciation for the majestic JBoats and gained an insight into the contributions of the crew members from Norway and particularly those from the small and beautiful island of Tysness.

We rode through a portion of Hordaland as we made our way from Bergen southward to Preikestolen in late August, 2002.
We started on the scenic highway 7 and passed along the Hardangerfjorden where a lot of Norway’s fruit is grown.

This waterfall drops down a 3000 foot cliff into the waters of the Osafjorden, a tributary of the upper reaches of Hardangerfjorden.
The falls appear to be fed primarily by several small lakes and tarns, but it's likely that seasonal snowfields contribute the majority of the stream's water.

Fra eit SFT sitt synspunkt vil det vera ein fordel om dette Hardangerfjorden vert dekka av ein og samme bedredskapsorganisasjon.
For Hardanger er det viktig å ikkje verta splitta mellom fleire regionar, men at Hardangerfjorden og Hardangervegane vert sett samla med tanke på forureining.
