Hardcore rap is tough, streetwise, intense, and often menacing (although the latter isn't always the case; there is room for humor and exuberance as well).
The first hardcore rap came from the East Coast during the late '80s, when artists began to move away from party rhymes and bragging about their microphone skills; their music and language began to reflect the gritty, often harsh urban surroundings in which it was usually created and enjoyed.
In the early '90s, hardcore rap was essentially synonymous with West Coast gangsta rap until the 1993 emergence of the Wu-Tang Clan, whose spare, minimalistic beats and haunting string and piano samples became a widely imitated style.

Hardcore music is testosterone-driven and appeals mainly to young white males.

Young people in the United States formed a hardcore style of punk music in which musicians were able to express their views on politics, war, animal rights and personal situations, Spielman said.

The group brought hardcore back on the map at the time when the scene was starting to fade away, he said.

In 2005, it's really easy for anybody to get four of their freinds together and rehash a bunch of youth crew fast parts and moshy breakdowns and sing about a bunch of bullshit that doesn't mean anything and has not one original thought in it.
We write music that we like, we do NOT try to sound ike ANYTHING (more importantly, we often DO try NOT TO sound like some things), and we make goddamn sure that the lyrics are the most important part of the package.
Because when hardcore was about playing like shit but having a relevant point, that's when it mattered most to us.

Hardcore, the hard-edged second generation of punk rock, whose peak period ranged from 1980 to 1986, has never before been captured in the way Steven Blush’s authoritative, extensively illustrated oral history revisits its dynamic and sordid past.
All the major hardcore scenes, particularly in Southern California, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Boston, New York City and Texas are given provocative voice through its major players, from drugged-out suburban Metal misfits to shit-kicking skinheads to vegan anti-drug pacifists.
Author Steven Blush was a prime mover in the scene he writes about; in the ’80s, he promoted many hardcore tours and shows, DJ’d an influential college radio show, and ran a record label.

Gradually evolving from the English rave scene of the late '80s and early '90s, Happy Hardcore featured many of the same elements that characterized rave: impossibly high beats per minute, similarly fast synthesizer/piano runs, and vocal samples altered to make the most soulful diva sound like a warbling chipmunk.
The positive vibes of happy hardcore were criticized by most clubgoers as music for the drugged-out youth, but just as the hardcore-into-jungle scene found favor with critics later in the decade, a certain amount of respect for happy hardcore appeared as well.
