		The problem with libbitmap.a is that gcc was compiled with "hardened" - you need to emerge gcc with "-hardened" and then X with "-hardened"

	Debian SbD: Position Independent Executables
		This method is now being examined for Hardened Gentoo, and would allow a single gcc to function as both a hardened and non-hardened compiler.
		It is a design decision for the Debian developers to tackle whether they would have the default behavior of gcc to have PIE and/or SSP on or off by default in the presence of multiple specs.
		Thanks go to the Hardened Gentoo devs for that bit of data; I'd previously assumed that this optimization did nothing when I compared performance.

		I just finished reinstalling one of the Pegasus Open Desktop Workstations and The Gentoo Hardened project now has access to one that was donated to the Open Source Lab last week.
		Hearing some of the directions Genesi is heading with these, hardened can be a great benefit (specifically thinking of mysql[1] servers[2]).
