| | Can The Harem Anime Genre Be Taken Seriously? |
 | | The whole concept, and indeed title of an anime being a "harem" anime is usually meant for either comedy or fanservice, and occasionally, a little bit of romance. |
 | | However, most harem anime will lean towards comedy, mainly because there are several issues with romance that may make the target audience turned off (remember, harem anime is, originally, meant for male fantasy-ishness, not really for the whole deep plot thing). |
 | | Of course, there are also romance anime with fanservice and angst, but even here you find no steady balance as well; those with more angst are usually more plot-based, those with more fanservice may actually fit better into the harem anime category (usually they involve more then one girl and have comedic moments). |
