The TAA – Harish - Chandra Memorial Award will be administered by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) from income derived at present from endowments made to the Institute by the family members of late Prof.
The award will be called the "TAA – Harish - Chandra Memorial Award" and will be given for the most outstanding Ph.D. thesis of the year submitted through the Institute on the basis of work done in Mathematics or Computer Science at the Institute.
The award is intended to serve as an early recognition and encouragement to bright young students who choose to contribute to the building up of the Institute's graduate school.

Together with Harish, Chandra Bal personally taught many of the artists presented on this website, such as Pieter Weltevrede, Sandeep Johari, Suresh Johari, Sapna Johari, among many others.
Master Chandra Bal taught Harish Johari the wash painting technique, which Harish later developed into his own Harish Johari Wash Painting Tradition.

Calcuttaweb - People : Prafulla Chandra Roy
In 1870 Harish Chandra moved his family to Calcutta so that his sons could have higher education.
In 1921 when Prafulla Chandra reached 60 years he donated, in advance, all his salary for the rest of his service in the University to the development of the Department of Chemistry and to the creation of two research fellowships.
Prafulla Chandra said on one occasion that when the people of Europe did not know how to make clothes, and were still wearing animal skins and wandering in forests, Indian scientists were manu- facturing wonderful chemicals.

 Locana
Harish, who was of a spiritual, even religious, cast and who liked to express himself in metaphors, vivid and compelling, did see, I believe, mathematics as mediating between man and what one can only call God.
Occasionally, on a stroll after a seminar, usually towards evening, he would express his feelings, his fine hands slightly upraised, his eyes intent on the distant sky; but he saw as his task not to bring men closer to God but God closer to men.
The theory he created still stands -- if I may be excused a clumsy simile -- like a Gothic cathedral, heavily buttressed below but, in spite of its great weight, light and soaring in its upper reaches, coming as close to heaven as mathematics can.

The Socialists got around the problem by splitting perennially; later the Janata Party/Janata Dal continued the tradition — a Chandra Shekhar walks out, forms his mini party; Mulayam Singh Yadav, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan, H.D. Deve Gowda, Ajit Singh, all prefer to be big frogs in their own very small ponds.
The only other group that is able to break into the party is of very rich individuals and industrialists, who are able to ‘buy’ their entree and nominations to the Rajya Sabha or the Lok Sabha.
The tradition among political parties in India is that of a dissident/dissatisfied leader walking away, forming a new outfit, rather than staying put and trying to change or capture the party from within.

We prove an analog of a theorem of Harish-Chandra for quantum symmetric spaces: There is a Harish-Chandra map which induces an isomorphism between the ring of quantum invariant differential operators and the ring of invariants of a Laurent polynomial ring.
A quantum version of a related theorem due to Helgason is also obtained: The image of the center under this Harish-Chandra map is the entire invariant ring if and only if the underlying irreducible symmetric pair is not one of four exceptional types.
By considering Dunkl-type differential-reflection operators associated to the integrable system, it is possible to show that the fundamental object controlling the algebraic relations between the Dunkl-type operators and the natural Weyl group action is a suitable graded algebra of Cherednik's degenerate double affine Hecke algebra.

Late Suresh Chandra Johri, 1942 - 2000, married with 3 children, was a born artist.
Due to his sudden and severe illness he was not able to paint out the composition himself, but together with his brother, late Harish Johari, he guided Pieter Weltevrede in completing this project.
Suresh Chandra Johri left his body five months after the paintings were completed.
