Douglas Scott Harkness who served his country with integrity and conviction both in the military arena of World War II and in the political arena of the House of Commons between 1945 and 1972.
Harkness was elected to the House of Commons in 1945 and retired in 1972 as the member for Calgary Centre.
Douglas Harkness and his family, his wife and son who predeceased him, helped build this into a better nation.

A schoolteacher, farmer and war hero, Harkness was first elected to the House of Commons for Calgary East in 1945; he subsequently represented Calgary North and Calgary Centre.
Appointed minister of defence in October 1960, Harkness advocated nuclear weapons for Canada and was soon in conflict with John DIEFENBAKER.

Finally, on Feb. 4, 1963 Doug Harkness, the Minister of National Defence, couldn't take what he believed was a betrayal of our agreement with the United States any longer and resigned.
But certainly a number of Liberals are likely to vote against the measure.

 Modernist Architecture
Right: Harkness Commons and the Graduate Center (1950) at Harvard University by Walter Gropius and the Architects Collaborative after the Nazi takeover of Germany and the closing of the Bauhaus in 1933.
The second location for the Bauhaus school of arts crafts, and architecture (1919-1933) formed by Walter Gropius.
There was no distinction between arts and crafts, and the art was to be designed for the working class.
