"Harlem Shuffle" is an RandB song originally recorded by the duo Bob and Earl in 1963, and covered by Booker T and the MG's, as well as the The Rolling Stones in 1986.
The Stones' version of the song is significant as part of a larger effort by white musicians in the 1980s and 1990s to more fully attribute the basis of their musical inspiration to African-American artists, where appropriate.

Shuffle Along was so original and successful that it inspired the creation of countless other African-American musicals to showcase African-American dancing.
As scholar James Haskins noted, Shuffle Along "started a whole new era for fls on Broadway, as well as a whole new era for fls in all creative fields." Loften Mitchell, author of Black Drama: The Story of the American Negro in the Theatre, credits Shuffle Along (1921) with launching the Harlem Renaissance.
The many talented African-American artists during the Harlem Renaissance helped to establish a form that was not imported from Europe or the English stage, but was indigenous to the United States.

This tune was originally done by the Isley Bros., but the version that a particular band in Garage knew was the Beatles’ version and not the Isley’s.
