The Harney Peak number nine trail is open as of this morning and the number two, Lost Cabin trail will open soon.
I read after the fact that the final accent to Harney Peak on trail # 9 rises 500 feet in one mile and there are no fewer than 30 switchbacks in that mile.
The fire tower here on Harney Peak was built in 1939 by the Civil Conservation Corps and was in use until the late 60s or so.

When one reaches the Cathedral Spires area there is a sign that says 'End of Trail.' Just past this sign, however, there is an obvious use trail.

I continued to photograph periodically until this photo was taken about 20 minutes after sunrise, with the sunlight coming from the south of Harney Peak highlighting the Cathedral Spires, as well as many of the granite features and mountains off in the distance.
