SANDUSKY -- Erie County Commissioner Harold Butcher pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of menacing by stalking involving a 14-year-old girl.
The victim and her mother wanted the case to be finished and agreed the plea was a fair way to end it, said special prosecutors, assistant Cuyahoga County prosecutors Mark Mahoney and Dan Kasaris.
The charge of menacing by stalking specifies that Butcher engaged in a pattern of conduct that knowingly caused the victim to believe that he would cause physical harm or mental distress to her, Mahoney said, citing Ohio law.

The CPSC had earlier found that some high-powered Daisy guns were defective because BBs could lodge in the magazine so that the rifle could be fired even though it appeared to be empty.
The issue arose in 1999 when the family of Tucker Mahoney filed suit after a friend accidentally shot the youth in the head with a Daisy BB rifle.
Mahoney was in a vegetative state until last month, when he died.

Born in Manchester on a June 20 during the German blitz of England, Mahoney was the seventh of eight children raised by his mother and father, a baker by trade and a pianist by avocation.
At age 37, Mahoney enrolled in classes at Chicago's St. Nicholas Theatre -- co-founded by David Mamet -- where he performed opposite John Malkovich, who invited him to join the Steppenwolf Theatre.
