Zoidberg is the nephew of Harold Zoid, the famous silent-hologram star, whose name is a play on both Harold Lloyd and the practice during the days of silent film of Jewish actors changing their names.
Zoidberg's age is never revealed in the series, and conflicting views are shown of his childhood - in one episode, Zoidberg is seen in child form, but in another episode, it is revealed that Zoidberg went through rapid larvae stages, including a sea sponge, cuttlefish, lamprey, and clam before growing into his present form.
Zoidberg is captured and taken to the USAF base in Roswell, New Mexico, becoming the supposed captured alien in the Roswell UFO incident.
