Harriman State Park is the second largest (additional info and facts about state park) state park in (A Mid-Atlantic state; one of the original 13 colonies) New York.
The park is also known for its 31 lakes, multiple streams, public (The act of encamping and living in tents in a camp) camping areas, and great vistas.
The state agreed and on October 29, 1910 (United States financier who negotiated a treaty with the Soviet Union banning tests of nuclear weapons (1891-1986)) William Averell Harriman presented a deed for the land and a check for $1,000,000 to the Commission.

For many years now, the rainbow trout in Harriman State Park [see map] have tempted and frustrated even the most accomplished of fly fishers.
While Harriman is definitely a place for the more accomplished angler, I don't think that people should let the challenge that these fish present discourage them from spending some time fishing the Park.
Harriman State Park is, in a word, gorgeous and a day spent on the water there is a day to be enjoyed.

The state has awarded Harriman State Park a $250,000 grant to improve its water and sewer systems, Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun, R-Blooming Grove, announced.
The grant was part of $7.5 million distributed recently to upgrade parks, campgrounds and other state lands, Calhoun said.
Harriman State Park, which straddles eastern Orange County and western Rockland County, draws up to 50,000 visitors a year and is the second-largest New York state park, Calhoun said.

Harriman State Park is a nice place for fall foliage photography.
Since Harriman is close to New York City, south of Vermont, the "peak" foliage time is a week or two after that in Vermont, so we are talking about around mid October or perhaps a week after that.
Taking Seven Lakes Drive southwest-bound, there is a parking and rest area on the left, or south side of the road just before you exit the park and enter the town of Tuxedo, NY.

Me and my pal Payaso went on a day hike in Harriman State Park yesterday, thinking it was a nice day to escape the terror being ramped up in NYC prior to the Republican convention.
The first thing we saw, as we got near the park, was a military helicopters (Blackhawk?) flying very low over the road ahead of us.
The parking lot costs $7, but there is a changing room with hot showers, and picnic tables.

This being the second meeting we have learned that the park closes roads and also that the park rangers did not approve of our old meeting place.
