Harringay developed in the late Victorian era as London expanded into the countryside to the north of Islington.
The line was to pass underneath Harringay without stopping there, and the Harringay Ratepayers Association led a spirited campaign for a station for Harringay, next to the Salisbury Hotel at the junction of Green Lanes and St Ann's Road.

The Temptation of Harringay - The Stolen Bacillus and Other Incidents - H.G. Wells, Book, etext
Following his version of the affair, the narrative deposes that Harringay went into his studio about ten o’clock to see what he could make of the head that he had been working at the day before.
The head in question was that of an Italian organ-grinder, and Harringay thought—but was not quite sure—that the title would be the “Vigil.” So far he is frank, and his narrative bears the stamp of truth.
Harringay delivered cut two across the demon, and followed with a thrust in the eye.

Sport | Soft Harringay ride was a bad case of Murphy's law
Chalk insisted that he had "serious reservations about the disciplinary process", that the current non-triers rule is "badly drafted" and that Knight and Timmy Murphy, who rode Harringay in her controversial race at Towcester this month, had both had to "make an obscene effort to clear their names".
You could also reflect, however, that had Harringay been ridden with just a fraction of the aggression that the lawyers displayed outside, there would have been no need for a hearing in the first place.
But if the punters are to have proper confidence in the rules, the prosecutors in cases such as these need to be every bit as aggressive and assured as those who are putting up the defence.

Then Harringay--according to Harringay's account--lit his pipe and sat down and stared at the enamelled canvas, and tried to make out clearly what had happened.

 Racing: Harringay joy
HARRINGAY attracted plenty of negative publicity last month, but was in the news for the right reasons with victory at Ludlow yesterday.
The local stewards at Towcester fined trainer Henrietta Knight £1,000, suspended Harringay from running for 40 days and banned Timmy Murphy for 14 days over the running and riding of the horse in November.
But those punishments were successfully overturned on appeal and the mare finished runner-up at Huntingdon on her comeback run earlier this month.
