 Hughes Cemetery, Harrison County, Missouri
Certainly, the spot was used as a de facto cemetery before that, though; the first burial noted to date was in 1859, before Hiram had migrated to the area and certainly before he first bought land in this area in 1886.
The cemetery is located in Section 12, Township 66, Range 26 of Harrison County, one-half mile west of the Mercer-Harrison county line, about 8 miles north of Cainsville, Missouri.
Although the cemetery is located within Harrison County, it can no longer be reached directly from there, as the old road has not been used in far too many years.

An order issued by the Harrison County Court on June 14, 1845, commissioned John S. Allen to procure plans and superintend the construction of a courthouse in Bethany, on a site northeast of the public square.
The County Court Record described the new courthouse as a 24-by-20-foot frame, 1-1/2-story building, with the lower story 9 feet and the upper story 5 feet.
There had been several attempts to move the county seat to a more central location: In 1870, 1874 and 1880, voters defeated proposals to move to Lorraine; in 1892 and 1912 Ridgeway was the losing contender.

Located just north of the northbound Interstate 29 rest area, and the St. John Wildlife Area (DNR) on Isles Avenue, this 240-acre restored wetland will offer habitat for migrating waterfowl as well as native upland habitat for pheasant and quail.

On June 10, 1995, police arrested several people in Harrison County, Missouri, for possession and sale of the drug.
About ten days after the Harrison County arrests, Middleton told a friend that "the snitches around here are going to start going down." Middleton stated that he had a "hit list" and that Alfred Pinegar was on it.
On June 23, 1995, the day of Pinegar's murder, Hobbs was driving toward her home in Davis City when she saw Middleton and his girlfriend Maggie Hodges in a white Chevrolet 4x4 pickup traveling in the opposite direction.
