Harrison County is a county located in the state of West Virginia.
In the county, the population is spread out with 23.10% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 27.50% from 25 to 44, 24.50% from 45 to 64, and 16.60% who are 65 years of age or older.
Harrison County was created in 1784, formed from Monongalia County and named for Benjamin Harrison, a Virginian who was the father of William Henry Harrison, ninth President of the United States and great-grandfather of Benjamin Harrison, twenty-third president.

First settled in 1764, the area of Harrison County was populated quickly and by the 1770s it had reached the stage of petitioning for division into a separate county.
Harrison County was formed in 1784 from the southern lands of Monongalia County.
Harrison received another parcel from the southwestern corner of Monongalia in 1799, and in 1801 the region known as 'Buckhannon Settlement' was returned to Harrison from Randolph County.

 West Virginia, Summers County History - SHG Resources
Summers County was created by an act of the Virginia General Assembly on February 27, 1871 from parts of Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer and Monroe counties.
He was a member of the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1850, ran for the Governorship of Virginia in 1850 but lost to Joseph Johnson, and was then elected Judge of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit of Virginia, serving from 1852 to 1858.
The county court house was constructed in Hinton in 1876 and occupied by the county court in 1877.

BARNEY B. BOND -- born in Tyler county, July 8, 1825, is a grandson of one of the earliest and most prominent of the settlers in the country.
She was born in Harrison county, then part of Virginia, May 22, 1834, and her parents, Thomas W. and Eliza C. (Marsh) Eslack, died in the county of ther birth.
Barney B. Bond held commission under the State of Virginia as captain of militia; he filled the office of constable, 1858-9, and was justice of the peace in 1872.

A 21-year-old man has died of his injuries after a fall Sunday in Fayette County.
Lawrence was a Marshall University student from Harrison County visiting Southern West Virginia over the weekend.
