The Truth about Harry Knowles (AICN News) - Asia Finest Discussion Forum   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Harry Knowles, on the other hand, not only accepted a cameo in Robert Rodriguez's The Faculty, he then claimed the movie was sheer genius, for months before any critic had a chance to take a look at the film.
Knowles claimed he’d had the info on the CA press release ahead of time and hadn’t published it because he was waiting on confirmation, so presenting someone else’s content as his own was no biggie.
Harry's writing is the kind of stuff that would be littered with red circles if it were handed in by a third-grader at school, and he almost seems proud of the fact.

HARRY: After eight months of doing the site, I found this guy who claimed to have seen all the big movies that were coming out that summer — and this was in January.
HARRY: When the reviews of the early tests came in, people were writing about a screening where someone in the audience had stood up and screamed, “Death to Schumacher!” Then I found a review by a guy who said that he got so impassioned that he stood up and screamed during the screening.
HARRY: The most depressing thing is the major studios’ obligatory: “We’ve got to have a gigantic summer film.”; Don’t get me wrong — I love big summer films.

Knowles keeps his 'Cool' in revealing tale   (Site not responding. Last check: )
From a very young age, Knowles was dragged to various conventions by his family, who helped teach him the value of movies.
Knowles devotes chapters to his now-defunct relationship with Matt Drudge, his rage against polling company the National Research Group, the one story he should have never printed (it involves Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace) and how AICN's coverage of Batman and Robin, Godzilla, Titanic and other films affected the industry.
Knowles wraps up his book with three appendices: one detailing his 10 favorite films, another with his 10 least favorite films and a particularly interesting list of 10 films he would like to see made.

Harry Knowles and the menace of generic movie love. - By Stephen Metcalf - Slate Magazine
Knowles had done nothing with his life if not nurture the Donkey-Kong-playing, smoke-bomb-throwing 14-year-old boy within, so it's no surprise that the most common type of film discussed on AICN is the multisensory turn-on, meant to bypass the brain on its way to jamming the nervous system.
If Harry Knowles can, by gathering opinions from test-screen guinea pigs before a film is released, unleash word of mouth that knocks out the salivary tingle, well, that can be very bad news indeed, especially for a big-budget project whose success is predicated on a pre-word-of-mouth opening weekend.
Harry's real claim to fame was having a spy report that the audience screenings of Titanic were enormous successes, thus countering the belief that the movie was going to be one of the great movie fiascos.

Harry is quick to point out that he's not taking credit for Schumachers subsequent career turnaround, but it sure reads like he is as he portrays himself as Yoda to the directors Luke Skywalker.
Knowles then removed his negative comments and replaced them with a plea to Superman fans to be positive and adopt a "wait and see" attitude towards the film.

The devil's adman - the debate over Harry Knowles Ain't-It-Cool-News web site - Brief Article Brandweek - Find Articles
Harry Knowles has a Web site with the unwieldy handle Ain't-It-Cool-News, where he and a bunch of fellow geeks from all over the world (present company included) trade news and gossip about current and upcoming movies.
(Harry's legion of geeks delight in infiltrating research-oriented previews and then playing Ebert on the theoretically unfinished films.) This is why Hollywood is terrified of him, and plenty angry about his site.
Though it's hard to believe Harry is having much effect on the fate of big studio fare--yet--it's undeniable that he already makes Hollywood nervous.

Now Knowles says he thinks that the list was probably some preliminary work by Academy staffers, which comprised their "best guesses" as to the nominees.

Not to be outdone, however, veteran campaigner Paul Cayard from the USA, with crew Brian Sharp, turned the tables on the rest of the fleet in the three day, six race Spring Championship series with consistent results across the board.

eFilmCritic - BOOK REVIEW: Harry Knowles' "Ain't It Cool?"
Knowles makes this clear all over “Ain’t It Cool?” which is part memoir and part “geek manifesto,” and lists not one but two co-authors (Paul Cullum and Mark Ebner).
Knowles has a lot of fun with Farrell, specifically his association with the notorious mid '80s dud Mannequin, but he exaggerates the influence of this admittedly dubious practice.
It’s no doubt true that the studios rely too much on test screenings, and Knowles makes a convincing case that they cannot accurately predict audience turnout; but the simple fact remains that films are homogenized to death long before they reach this stage.

 Dragon*Con Biography: [Harry Knowles]
Self-professed "film geek" Harry Knowles, a movie fanatic from Austin, Texas, started his movie-news site www.aint-it-cool-news.com in April 1996, is now quoted in everything from Variety to the New York Times, and has inspired his own media watch.
Knowles rubs shoulders with an army of anonymous sources in the film industry with code names like Rorschach and the Brussels Babe -- in actuality everyone from hairdressers to executive assistants.
They feed the Ain't It Cool News with hundreds of industry tidbits each week: casting decisions, location scouting items, post-production nightmares and what went down at the test screening -- the kinds of things that studio executives like to keep secret.

Harry Knowles is going to be on 'Turn Ben Stein On' on Comedy Central Thursday night it looks like.
I don't necessarily agree with his concept that he's a "film advocate" rather than a reviewer or writer, thus he shouldn't be hindered by the same rules as others who review movies, but he supported his stance relatively well.
