Model United Nations is a simulation education activity focusing on civics, communications, globalization and multilateral diplomacy.
Model United Nations (also known as "Model UN" or simply "MUN") allows students to do the same with social science, civics, communications, sociology and psychology, as scientific laboratories allow students to experience, practice and experiment with the theories and ideas in biology, chemistry and physics.
Model United Nation participants are elementary, secondary, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students…and recently even university alumni and professionals; participants come from public and private schools and universities; and they live in city, suburban and rural areas.

 Wheaton College: News: Lessons in Diplomacy
Thirteen Wheaton students got a firsthand lesson in diplomacy at the Harvard National Model United Nations in Boston last month, and one of them took home an award for his efforts.
The 2004 Model UN, held on February 12 - 14, was Harvard's 50th such session, drawing nearly 2,500 college students from around the world.
To prepare for the conference, the Wheaton students met weekly with visiting lecturer Asbed Kotchikian, studying the history and structure of the United Nations.

The way that a typical Model UN conference works is that the students are assigned a country by the school hosting the conference.
Later, in November, they held their own conference, the Cleveland National MUN Conference, here at the law school with nearly 120 students from throughout the Midwest.

The West Point Model United Nations team earned an Honorable Mention for representing Belgium at the 2003 Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference this weekend in Atlanta, GA. EASTON, Pa.(www.lafayette.edu), May 16, 2005 — Driven by the goal of being as prepared as possible for the Harvard National Model United Nations, a group of Lafayette students has decided to form a Model UN Club.
In the past, students who participated in such a simulation, which replicates the way the United Nations holds summits, sought training for the event through unofficial channels.
