  Harvey Magee Watterson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Harvey Magee Watterson (November 23, 1811 – October 1, 1891) was an American lawyer, newspaper editor, and politician.
Watterson was sent by President John Tyler on a diplomatic mission to Buenos Aires, where he remained for two years.
From 1845 to 1847, he was a member of the Tennessee Senate and served as speaker.

Watterson was called "the last of the great personal journalists", writing colorful and controversial editorials on many topics.
During his tenure as editor, Watterson was a Democratic representative in Congress from 1876 to 1877, and was a five-time delegate to the National Democratic Convention, where, in 1892, he received a smattering of votes for the vice presidential nomination.
Watterson was the nephew of Thomas Stanley Matthews.

Confederate soldier, editor of the Louisville Courier-Journal, U.S. congressman from Ky. A collection of papers mostly consisting of incomplete correspondence, 1885-1915; chapters of a novel, practically all incomplete, numbered I-XXXIX, with gaps and duplications of numbers; and drafts of speeches, editorials, articles, a play, and another novel, nearly all of which are incomplete.
Watterson's desk and was apparently an accumulation of first drafts and unused material.
Correspondence includes letters between Watterson and his fiancee Rebecca Ewing throughout the Civil War and while he was assuming the editorship of the Louisville Journal in 1868; letters from his father, Harvey Magee Watterson; and from other prominent political figures.

Watterson was a retired Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Lourdes Ebreo Watterson of the Phillipines; 1 son, Richard of Katy; his mother, Dorthy Clark of Junction; 1 brother, Weldon Watterson of Tulsa, Okla.; 1 sister, Joyce Green of Kansas City, Missouri.

Captain Knox was commissioned in the State service on the 14th of June, and on the 24th of June he sent out written orders from Clarion to the members of the company which he had recruited, notifying them to report at that town, and be ready to move to Pittsburgh on the 1st of July.
Almost the entire company reported, and they proceeded by way of Reidsburg and Curllsville to Watterson’s Ferry, where they got aboard an old canal boat, and floated down the Allegheny River to Kittanning.

Inspired by the recent release of The Complete Calvin and Hobbes, podcaster Len of Jawbone Radio paid a visit to Bill Watterson's home town, Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
He ended up interviewing Watterson's mom, laying eyes on some original Calvin and Hobbes artwork and sharing some interesting bits of trivia about the beloved strip.

These children have filed objections to their father leaving all his estate, valued at about $20,000, to his "dear friend, Alice WATTERSON," to the exclusion of his own children and widow.
