The picturesque village of Hascombe contains a cluster of cottages, St Peter's church, the village green and The White Horse pub, all nestling between wooded hillsides in Surrey, United Kingdom.
The village is situated roughly midway between Godalming and Cranleigh (grid reference SU997397) and had 274 inhabitants at the 2001 census.
Hascombe Hill, once the site of an Iron Age fort, became an important naval telegraph station in the early 19th century, using a mechanical form of semaphore to communicate with Netley Heath in Surrey on one side and Blackdown in Sussex on the other.

In september 1939 my mum was evacuated from Earsfield stn south west London to godalming surrey.It later transpires that the house belonged to an MP called Sir John Jervis.The evacuees were looked after by the maids and servants and went to the local school.
I was told stories by mum of a german spy being captured in the grounds,By all accounts he said he was polish and was caught monitering activiy on nearby Dunsfold Airfield(he also worked at Hascombe Crt in the gardens)
Further to this my mums brother was in the Royal Navy serving on HMS Suffolk during the search for the Bismark.Mum remembers the local policeman telling her that her brother had been in a big sea battle and they had sunk the Bismark!!!
