Hastur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hastur is a fictional character from the Cthulhu Mythos of H.
In Bierce's short story Haita the Shepherd, Hastur is the god of shepherds, a far more benevolent entity than would later appear in August Derleth's Mythos stories.
In Chambers's The King in Yellow, a fin-de-siècle collection of horror stories, Hastur is the name of a city (in "The Repairer of Reputations") and the name of a potentially supernatural servant (in "The Demoiselle D'Ys").

Hastur is half-brother to Cthulhu, and like him Hastur has been imprisoned by the star-shaped Elder Sign.
Hastur exists partly on the Prime Material Plane (and this part is imprisoned in the crypt) and partly on the Elemental Plane of Air (thus he is immune to cold and the vacuum of space).
Hastur is never more than partially on the Prime Material Plane and is therefore not completely solid.

The Heritage of Hastur -- Darkover   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Described as "Bradley's best novel" by Locus, The Heritage of Hastur, longest and most intricate Darkover books, is a brilliant epic of the pivotal event in the strange love-hate relationship between the Terran worlds and the semi-alien offspring of the forgotten peoples.
This is the novel of the Hastur tradition and the showdown between those who would bargain away their world for the glories of the star-borne science and those who would preserve the special "matrix" power that was at once the prize and the burden of ruddy-sunned Darkover.
I think that the most important aspects of this novel are its tragical plot and the very precise way the author describes the psychology of the main characters, Regis Hastur and Lew Alton.

Heritage is also the story of Lew Alton, Regis Hastur's friend and foster-brother, son and heir of Kennard, Lord Alton and Elaine Montray, a woman of Terran blood.
It is fitting for The Heritage of Hastur and Sharra's Exile to be published in an omnibus volume as they tell a single, deeply complex story, that of the struggle for Darkover to be accepted in the Terran Empire and still remain true to herself.
