Into Liquid Sky - Music Reviews
In all honesty, Hatefiles is an obvious means by which to empty Roadrunner's vaults into one album.
Hatefiles opens with four tracks written and performed for various videogames, including Terminate (for a Terminator game, go figure), Frequency and Demolition Racer.
And, by long-term fans, I mean people who bought Soul of New Machine and enjoyed Fear Factory before they made the radical shift from industrial-death metal to a more techno/heavy metal between Soul and their second album.

Hatefiles is one of those ghastly "remix" albums.
A large portion of the songs on Hatefiles, unlike so many other remix albums (such as Limp Bizkit's appalling "New Old Songs") are original unreleased ones.
One of the reasons I love Fear Factory is that on each album their sound evolves, and you can pick out even on "Hatefiles" which album the songs come from.

After some twelve years, four studio albums, two remix albums and a string of singles, the ashes of the one great futuristic cyber-metal act were laid to rest.
Now depending on your view, Hatefiles can either been seen as the perfect compilation to all those hardcore fans of this highly influential band's legacy, or simply Roadrunner's last grasp attempt to bleed the last dollar out of the band.
The only real high point about Hatefiles is the notes that accompany each of the tracks explaining their history.

Like the previous "Concrete", "Hatefiles" contains tracks which were made but never released (plus some which were released, but tucked away as B-sides) along with various live tracks, remixes and alternative versions (an interesting early version of DARK BODIES).
However, it is impossible to listen to without thinking that it is a cynical cash-in on the long suffering FF followers, who have only just had to splash out on Concrete (which basically was just a slightly extended version of Soul Of A New Machine which most fans have already).
Most of the songs on Hatefiles are more different from the originals than those on Concrete, but it is by no means an all new release.

The Gary Numan only vocal on ‘Cars’ and the demo version of ‘Dark Bodies’ is the last of the real rarities, with the last seven tracks made up of one live recording and six unnecessary remixes.
Hatefiles is hardly the hardcore Fear Factory fans ultimate so-called ‘collection of rare and hard to find’ tracks.
The vaults have well and truly been emptied of studio material (Especially after the release of Concrete earlier this year), but don’t be surprised is Roadrunner release a live album next.

Due to the group's fondness for industrial sounds that often border on "dancefloor-friendly," this shouldn't come as a surprise, as the 2003 compilation Hatefiles ties up all the loose ends -- collecting remixes, demos, and rarely heard tracks.
These type of compilations are usually assembled once a band has split up, and in 2003, many assumed Fear Factory was over (due to the exit of founding guitarist Dino Cazares).
Shortly after the release of Hatefiles, however, it was announced that Fear Factory would be carrying on without Cazares, which makes the timing of the arrival of Hatefiles a bit puzzling.

It sounds like Fear Factory is cannibalising its own earlier songs without the death metal trappings or anger that the band used to be known for.
They've been co-opted by the "new metal" movement, are pretty much respected by many mainstream media outlets and have been credited with being an important band of the 1990's.
Most of the rest of Hatefiles is made up of remixes and alternate takes of songs from Fear Factory's Demanufacture, Obsolete and Digimortal albums.

"Hatefiles" isn't a bad collection of rare FF songs, but this is worth picking up for die hard Fear Factory fans only.
Casual FF fans would be more well advised to save their money for their latest album "Archetype" or their unearthed debut "Concrete".
I can tell you that this album is a mixed bag, some good songs and remixes and some stuff that you really won't care for.

Fear Factory's music is more like techno than metal and when the vocalist tries to scream and be intense...
"Hatefiles" is yet another attempt for Roadrunner to cash in on the then disbanded Fear Factory, containing 18 tracks of previously unreleaed material and remixes and the like.
Songs featured in video games and soundtracks like "Terminate" and "Demolition Racer" are solid, while remixes of "Edgecrusher" and "Cars" are pretty lame.
