Hatton Cross tube station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hatton Cross is a London Underground station served by trains on the Heathrow branch of the Piccadilly Line.
Between 16th December 1977 and 12th April 1986 it was located between Hounslow West and the stub terminal Heathrow Central (known from 3rd October 1983 as Heathrow Central Terminals 1,2,3).
When the new Terminal 5 station opens, probably in September 2006, it is expected that every other train arriving at Hatton Cross will run via the Heathrow Terminal 4 loop, while the alternate trains will run direct to Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3 and then continue down the new branch to Heathrow Terminal 5.

On that date, both the loop track and the station were closed in order to allow the construction of a new rail junction to link to the new Heathrow Terminal 5 station.
All trains have reverted to using the original westbound track from Hatton Cross direct to Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3 which was used prior to the opening of Heathrow Terminal 4.

Smoking was banned on all carriages on the trains in July 1984, except for a middle carriage.
The ban was extended, for a six-month trial, to all parts of the Underground in summer 1987, and this was made permanent after the King's Cross fire in November 1987.
The fire at King's Cross station on 18 November 1987 was caused by a burning match falling onto a wooden escalator tread and then igniting grease-laden dust accumulated in the drive mechanism below the escalator.
