It is believed that Hauser Junction was named at the time the branch was completed by Daniel Chase Corbin in honor of his good friend and business partner who was appointed governor of Montana Territory in 1885 by President Cleveland.
Hauser is the junction of the main line with the Coeur d'Alene branch of the Northern Pacific Railroad.
In 1947 dredging of Hauser Lake Outlet was conducted by the Idaho Fish and Game Department, Kootenai County, and a local gun club in order to expedite spring runoff so that adjacent farm lands could be settled earlier.

The new refueling station is different from traditional yards, where locomotives are often disconnected from their loads and taken into a roundhouse for service, a process that takes hours.
At the Hauser facility, tracks bring loaded trains right up to the pumps, where 10 locomotives at a time can receive new loads of up to 3,500 gallons of diesel fuel, plus oil for lubrication, traction sand and water.

"There is no longer adequate protections or controls at the Hauser facility," according to the lawsuit filed late in the afternoon by DEQ in state District Court in Kootenai County.
The lawsuit was filed just two hours after railroad executives met with state leaders in Boise to insist the repeated fuel leaks at the depot did not pose a threat to the region's sole-source aquifer.

A leak at a Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Co. refueling station near Hauser, Idaho, was discovered Dec. 10.
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality said small amounts of petroleum-laced wastewater made their way to the Rathdrum Prairie-Spokane Aquifer, the sole source of drinking water for 400,000 people in northern Idaho and northeast Washington.
