Haven's relationship with Jolie was the subject of controversy after Jolie affectionately kissed her brother when she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 2000 Oscars.
Haven studied filmmaking at USC School of Cinema-Television, and while there, won a George Lucas film award for directing a film which featured Jolie.
Haven was credited, along with his mother and sister, as an executive producer on the 2005 documentary "Trudell", which told the story of Native American poet and activist John Trudell.

PBS picked up on the success of the film and in 1997 Hubbell expanded it for a national audience, though it still retains much of its Connecticut flavor.
