"HAVERHILL, a parish and small town in the hundreds of Risbridge and Hinckford, counties Suffolk and Essex, 20 miles S.W. of Bury St. Edmund's, and 25 N. of Chelmsford, and is a station on the Colne Valley and Halstead branch of the Great Eastern railway.
The town consists of one street, nearly 1 mile in length, of which the eastern extremity is in Essex, and the southern in Suffolk.

St Edmundsbury borough councillors decided on Tuesday night to pay for the cinema in Haverhill.
It will be run by Cineworld and built by developers Citygrove, which will submit a planning application for the 17,000 sq ft site in the next month.

Four identical houses have been built in Haverhill, Suffolk, two using hemp mixed with lime as the principal material, the others of brick and block construction.
The project was prompted by the enthusiasm for hemp construction by local architect Ralph Carpenter who persuaded St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Suffolk Housing to undertake the project which is also being supported by the Housing Corporation.
The project is being funded by the society and with grants from the Housing Corporation and St Edmundsbury Council.
