 The Hawker Sea Hawk
The design team, working under Hawker's Sydney Camm, removed the piston engine from the nose of the Fury, moved the bubble canopy as far forward as possible, and put the B.41 engine in the middle of the aircraft.
Hawker Aircraft, faced with massive cancellations of orders for their piston fighters, hastily modified the P.1040 design for carrier operation, and submitted the proposal to the Royal Navy in January 1946.
One Sea Hawk was still flying in the UK until a few years ago, but at last notice the ravages of age had caught up with it, and it could no longer be safely flown.

Hawker Siddeley was also obliged to incorporate Martin Baker Mk 10 ejection seats, in place of the originally proposed lightweight Folland-designed seats, and this in turn necessitated a ten-inch increase in fuselage length.
Hawker Siddeley had also tried to find a suitable name for the new aircraft by holding a competition amongst its employees, but was ultimately overruled by the RAF which, on 3 August 1973, announced that the name 'Hawk' had been selected.
The Hawk 128 will be cleared to carry a comprehensive range of weaponry but future enhancements to the aircraft may, in some cases, dispense with the need to carry weaponry altogether, as synthetic sensor and weapons capability - including radar and EW simulation, and DataLink - is introduced.

 Happy Birthday, Hawk
The BAe Hawk (nee Hawker Siddeley Hawk) first flew on 21st August 1974 and to celebrate its 25th anniversary the Valley Aviation Society organised a small photocall and static display of representative aircraft to raise money for the NSPCC.
Ironically the Hawk would prove to be one of the very last designs by the company as it was merged with its competitor to form the fledgling British Aerospace, and as such was one of the last inter-British aviation competitions.
Eighteen more Hawks were due to be ordered in 1980, but these fell victim to the Defence cuts of the year and so the original 176 has reduced to 143 serviceable aircraft over twenty-three years of active service, a loss of just under two a year.

The Hawk T1As lack the power and noise of the F/A-18, but they fly a display of 9 aircraft rather than the 6 (I understand the display is with 6, the others are spares) of the Blue Angels.
The hawks advantage is the airframe is very 'slippery' and can be difficult to slow down (you can see the airbrake is often deployed).
Mind you one interesting thing about the Red Arrows, their aircraft are still fully combat capable in the point defence secondary role assigned to all RAF Hawks.
