Charles Sanders Peirce was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the son of Sarah and Benjamin Peirce.
Peirce's academic ambitions were frustrated by his difficult (perhaps manic-depressive) personality and by the scandal surrounding his divorce from Harriet Melusina Fay and his marriage to Juliette Froissy which immediately followed.

Hayford Junction / Clearing Yard, a massive double hump yard (for trains) that is the largest and one of the busiest in the Chicago area.
Joseph Ephraim Casely Hayford (J.E. Casely Hayford), (1866â“1930) a Fante journalist, author, lawyer, educator, and politician who supported Pan-African nationalism.
Peirce has also collaborated with David M. Alexander on stories that have appeared in Analog.
He is the nephew of the American painter Waldo Peirce.

The two men traveled together to the Fiesta of San Fermin in Pamplona and Peirce was a visitor to the Hemingway home in Key West, often recording their adventures in oil paintings and beautifully illustrated scrapbooks.

Peirce has a very dry wit and strong sense of humor, and the story starts looking like a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta.
Peirce is almost up to the task -- while the plot occasionally goes sailing off out of control, he always gets it reeled in again before everything falls apart, and by the end of the book, all the loose ends are tied up and the reader probably has figured it all out.
This is not an outrightly funny book like the Ford book, but a book where the author tries to twist things as strangely as possible while still keeping it from falling into a heap on the floor.

In the explorer windows if the left pane is grayed out: - do a search for FOLDER.HTT and DESKTOP.INI - delete all instances of the files and restart the computer, you should be able to see the folder structure in the left hand pane after the restart.

He's not getting any younger, and he's growing increasingly depressed as his island paradise falls prey to outside influences, but he's still a pretty slick operator, not above running a scam or two to help out a client in a series of interesting short stories in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine.

If it makes you think better of me, I hate Joyce as much as you do, but it was my understanding that Perelman's own opinion of Joyce differed from ours.

A book review by Evelyn C. Leeper Copyright 1987 Evelyn C. Leeper This novel by HayfordPeirce (yes, that really is how it's spelled) is the second in the "Ben Bova Discoveries" series (the first is Rebecca Ore's BECOMING ALIEN).
From the introductory blurb, I get the impression that Bova is attempting to imitate the "Ace Science Fiction Specials" series that Terry Carr edited so successfully before his death.
Fair condition (wraps heavily rubbed at top edge and along spine; nicked at head and tail of spine, small loss; wraps creased; occasional pencilled annotation, contents very clean, however).

However, her friends have an audio tape of her husband threatening to cut her up.
Any reasonably youthful writer who creates a popular series character such as Sherlock Holmes, Nero Wolfe, or Matt Helm is eventually going to run into the problem of aging.
