Located on an isolated sandy peninsula known as "Black Point," at the entrance to Chichester Harbour, England, the Hayling Island Sailing Club, was founded in 1921.
The club recently built a new club house, which was inaugurated by HRH Princess Anne.
Nearby waters can be used as a mock-Olympic track, and regular classes are held to teach the basics of sailing.

He called a meeting of other creek users with the idea of forming a club after first ascertaining that the vacant timber building, (the clubroom of Hayling Island Sailing Club before they moved to their present premises at Sandy Point in 1936) was available.
Then the club was offered the chance to purchase the Tidal Mooring areas of Mengeham Creek plus Mudland bordering the club boundary from the estate of the late Capt. Ivan Snell, a fine supportive family to the island.
The burgee for the club depicts the green ground of Tournerbury Woods opposite the club where an ancient encampment is known to exist.

HISC is situated on the eastern end of Hayling Island on Britain’s south coast.
Sandy Point, at the eastern end of Hayling Island is a peninsula consisting of a narrow causeway with a roughly round "lump" on the end.
The main championship race area is in Hayling Bay off the south beach of Hayling Island where the tidal streams are greatly reduced by the presence of sand bars to the east and west.

One of the neatest boats I've ever sailed was the Musto skiff, but there are precious few people in the US who have given any indication that they'd pay $16k for a singlehanded dinghy, so no one takes the opportunity to make it available here.
Their historic "rival" club, just down the street, which has produced a BUNCH of Olympians, AC sailors and champions of many stripes, is having to fight to keep their sailing program alive.
Because the sailing program doesn't make money, the tennis program did, and it would be better for the club if the dinghy park were turned into more courts.

Hayling Island was well-organised and the weekend ran like a typical RS open meeting.
With a massive team of volunteers on hand the wait down the causeway or onto the beach was minimal and very soon over 250 RS boats had taken to the water for the first race.

Congratulations to Hayling Island lifeboat crew member, Colin Parke, who was passed out as a B Class helmsman on 27th October.
Hayling Island lifeboat station operates a three watch system and Paul will now be responsible for managing the boat crew of "Red Watch".

We sailed better on the Sunday and were it not for the last run of the penultimate race we would have secured third.
Sailing in full survival mode we managed to wrestle her down the run and back to the top mark for the final run to the finish.
Due to the sailing area being in a bay at the mouth an estuary tidal flows would prove to be important but not as important as the wind bends found on the course due to two huge mountains at either side of the bay.

They have actually realised that an assy on a narrow, heavy (1 ton) boat that will, in general, be sailing in strongly tidal waters doesn't make much sense.
It seemed quite an elegant machine, and the designers had listened to their client and it could be quite a cool shallow water racing machine.

About 40 boats from the Hayling Island Sailing Club were racing in Chichester Harbour when some were pushed over by the strength of the seas and winds.
The RNLI Hayling Island inshore lifeboat was immediately launched and the Coastguard worked with the Sailing club and its safety boats to ensure everyone was safe and accounted for.

It was mixed emotion at the 2003 RYA Youth Championships and Trials as the sailors left the shore of Hayling Island Sailing Club on the final day of racing.
For some they were sailing to win their place in the RYA National Youth Squad and for others the plane ticket to Madeira for the 2003 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships was at the forefront of their minds.
The first race for most of the classes was started in eight knots of wind, but the breeze quickly built and by the end of the second and for those sailing a third, it was closer to 14 knots and gusting 16 at times.

The competitors were greeted with 25 knots of breeze and a falling tide, this raised heart beats in the boat park and problems for the race officer.
After a postponement of an hour to let the weather stabilise it was decided to release the fleet for racing in the harbour, a very brave decision on a falling tide and building breeze.
LSH although being late to the start after a capsize gave a lesson in heavy weather sailing and consolidated their 2nd overall by putting in their second win of the day.

The Optimist sailors and parents who made the trip to Hayling for a very early start on Saturday were rewarded with sunshine and 10-12 knot breezes throughout a two day meeting.
Whilst parents and supporters basked in sunshine on Hayling’s beaches, close racing was in progress on the water.
Local helmsman Dominic Boon seemed unbeatable in the opening two races, but after Ben Marshall’s win in race three on Saturday, the scene was set for a duel in Sunday’s final race.
