Throwdown : Haymaker - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
And when Haymaker is playing, one is inclined to agree with that assertion.
Haymaker isn't quite as heavy and dense as some metalcore outings; Throwdown give listeners more room to breathe and don't go out of their way to be exhausting.
Ultimately, Haymaker's lyrics are more positive than negative, but without getting into the sort of preachy political correctness that has made some straight-edge bands off-putting and even annoying.

BGEA: Papers of Willis Graham Haymaker - Collection 1
Haymaker was educated at Winona Academy (graduated 1913) and Winona College (graduated 1917) and married Dorothy Elizabeth Taylor of Winona Lake on July 27, 1921.
Haymaker, besides working on specific crusades, helped decide which invitations Billy Graham and other evangelists of the Association should accept and the records also are concerned with the invitations Dr. Graham received from all over the world for speaking engagements.
Haymaker, until about 1964, had most of the responsibility for investigating these invitations as to their feasibility and desirability and replying to the impossible or unlikely ones.

Hearing the name Throwdown, you are instantly prepared for something heavy, and naming the album "Haymaker" and plastering a prize fighter, hands taped and all throughout the CD booklet, the listener instantly knows they are in for something devastating.
There are enough violent breakdowns on this album to inspire the sickest of mosh pits, and light the fire under anyone's ass.
Drumming on the album is provided by Jarrod Alexander, as former drummer Ken Floyd has exited the band, though he was never expected to be a permanent member of the band.

Vendetta follows the band's landmark album Haymaker, a to-the-point tour de force slab of bludgeoning self-motivational venom that redefined the beautifully uncomplicated side of the metallic-hardcore genre when it was released in 2003.
The album spawned the "Headbanger's Ball" staple "Forever," a new anthem to rally behind for a generation hungry for their own Earth Crisis or Black Flag.
Haymaker drew favorable comparisons in the press to Sepultura and Pantera while rightly aligning the band with the burgeoning Orange County hardcore scene and the so-called New Wave of American Heavy Metal embodied by bands like Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall.

Not only does his fourth album represent the most creative stretch of his career, it’s release caps a tumultuous year for the 37-year old Iowan.
The album opening “Not in Iowa” (ironically recorded in Iowa) serves as an evocative swan song to his native state, with sinuous atmospherics that suggest a spaghetti-western shootout between Dire Straits and Calexico.
Pardekooper justifies the range of what amounts to a double album with songwriting that is as focused as the music is expansive.

The entire album is exciting and keeps you at the edge of your seat, never knowing that a seemingly mellow im-prov will explode with swirling guitars and super technical percussion.

Haymaker is a band that is not afraid to release a fun record.
Just keep in mind that his next album, after he has shed the heavy specter of his influences, will be the real masterpiece that this effort nearly was.
The rest of the album is standard barroom bluesy fare, altogether unremarkable and indistinguishable from the thousands of other acts making the same music.

The guitars charge with more metal riffs than they did on Haymaker, but the adrenaline rush they produce is still the same.
Yet again Throwdown has produced an album with one idea in mind, with one target audience … the mosh pit.

But even if this album didn't cop innumerable bands' sounds before Throwdown's time, "Haymaker" (the band's third full-length) would still sound as boring as it did when it was first released back in 2003.
The album may try to interest (or intimidate) first-time listeners with a massive wall of mind-numbing guitar crunch, less-than-one-dimensional vocals, and idiotic lyrics, but once you get passed these things, all that's left is a harmless, useless, instantly forgettable piece of garbage.
Let me firstly say that this album was a freaking awesome hardcore album and that the music alone is great but personally, I am straight edge and I didn't buy the CD for the sXe lyrics or because these guys are edge.

Soda Jerk Presents - Upcoming Event - Sunday, August 14th 2005
Throwdown truly found their voice, both literally and figuratively, with "Haymaker." The songs on the band's Trustkill Records debut, most notably the MTV2 "Headbanger's Ball" staple "Forever," were the next logical step forward for the band, who rightly elected to elevate their status beyond "project" into a full-time touring machine.
Matt Mentley graduated from fill-in live guitarist to full-time member after the album's release and he fit in smoothly with Peters and founding member Dom Macaluso, whose focus and work ethic have driven Throwdown's career every bit as much as his bass-lines have powered their songs.
The new album, like all great records, speaks to the frustrations of the outsider, uniting the masses through their shared struggles, and calling out the common enemies amongst the backstabbers and liars.

Instrumentally proficient, frighteningly heavy and musically intelligent enough to intellectually stimulate, this album is nearly the total package.
In a perfect world, this would be the album that topples the 'Neurisis' stranglehold on aspiring instrumentally-driven metal bands and causes them to reevaluate their line of thinking.
While this is unlikely to happen anytime soon, Intronaut have still indelibly stamped a big old void on what the standard for instrumentally-gifted progressive metal had become in recent years- not too mention made what is all but guaranteed to be an underground classic in the process.

The first thing that struck me when I started listening to their Trustkill debut, "Haymaker" was the creativity, the passion, and the fact that I could actually understand what they were saying.
Throwdown hammers out energetic beats and rythms and powerful lyrics in songs such as "Forever" and "Hopeless." They spread a message of unity, which was also apparent on their previous album entitled "You don't have to be Blood to be Family." They're all about positive thinking and inner-strength.

Pitchfork: Michael Zapruder's Rain of Frogs: "Haymaker Market" [Track Review]
With guitar as ambience, the track moves tectonically: Kaplan singing one minute and strumming like he has oven mitts on the next, the groove blurring then tightening then blurring and by the last minute promising to run forever.
"Haymaker Market" is the story of an imperial town's new farmers market that changes the city for the better.
New instruments arrive on the song constantly-- an easy enough "people come to farmers market" conceit-- and the song's energy increases likewise, from sweet-talking acoustic strums at the start to the drums and keyboard additions that foreshadow the chorus.
