In 1893 the Haymarket Martyrs Monument by sculptor Albert Weinert was raised at Waldheim.
On the 41st anniversary of the riot, May 4, 1927, a streetcar jumped its tracks and crashed into the monument (statements made by the driver suggested this may have been deliberate).
In 1985, scholars doing research for a possible centenial commemoration of the riot were surprised to learn that most of the primary source documentation relating to the incident was not in Chicago, but had been transferred to then-communist East Berlin.

 Review : Haymarket Riot - MOG
Haymarket Riot have not lost the soul and poise to close in on being a really spectacular musical ensemble.
Haymarket Riot do have a free-wheeling streak and are prone to hard rocking, as is evident on "My Donuts, God Damn!" but as a whole, the music is a bit too angular and jagged to really feel convincing in a rocking-as-if-your-balls-were-on-fire kind of way.
Haymarket Riot have prowess for sure and the potential for musical greatness, but MOG is not yet the group’s highest mark.

When I reviewed Haymarket Riot's 2001 LP Bloodshot Eyes, I focused mainly on how the band's sound was very similar to that of Fugazi, and that if you enjoyed the pioneering DC group, you'd probably be all about Kevin J. Frank and company.
Haymarket Riot seems to have gotten it's second wind, and also seems to have experienced a sort of musical rebirth.
Everything you liked about the old Haymarket Riot is still here, but I'm all for evolution, and this band is well on their way out of the "sounds like Fugazi" cellar.

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Haymarket Riot's reverence for the Washington, D.C. punk scene of the early '90s comes at a heavy cost.
However, when the group is brought into the studio and commits their songs to tape, and the veneer of the live show is stripped away, what's left is a great replica of punk rock that was best played nearly a decade ago.
Haymarket Riot do put forth an admirable effort, but anyone looking for something new to file alongside their Fugazi and Drive Like Jehu records will do best to look elsewhere.

May 4 at the Haymarket, a site on Randolph between Halsted and Des Plaines Street, but due to low attendance it was moved a half block away to Des Plaines Street north of Randolph Street.
In his remarks he claimed the jury was selected to convict and the judge so prejudiced against the defendants that a fair trial was impossible.
The monument was originally situated in the middle of Haymarket Square, where street car lines were forced to swerve around it.
