Anthony Judson Hayward - Sawyer County Historical Society & Museum - Hayward, WI, USA
Anthony Judson Hayward was born in the city of Pittsburgh, on the 17th of March, in the year 1835, and because of the age of his mother (who was a woman of great activity and determination, and from whom he inherited these excellent qualities) he was adopted into the McCord family.
Hayward took up a pre-emption timber claim, which was somewhat similar to our stone and timber claims now, inasmuch as it required residence, but there was nothing to pay for them, whereas for the timber claims now we have to pay $2.50 per acre.
Hayward worked for himself and in the spring we was elected treasurer of the new town of Shawno, which office he held for two successive terms, and gave good satisfaction.

Welcome to the Hayward Lakes Area of Wisconsin
Our town's water tower says it all, "Home of World Record Muskies." And that's just exactly what Hayward, Wisconsin is…the home of more record busting muskie catches than any other locale in the world.
Hayward's waters are located just far enough to the north to grant its muskie population the longevity that is needed to grow huge muskies; but yet, far enough to the south so as to give their resident muskie population a relatively long growing season.
As far as the lakes in the southern end of the muskie range go, many experts believe that, while the muskies there grow very fast because of the longer growing season, the muskies life span there is much shorter and they don't live long enough to grow to record size.
