The myth takes a new turn on the 1996 opera stage, which is set with screens and projections of scenes from Salome's dysfunctional childhood to suggest her psychological motivation.
Projection involves both the imputation of motive and the evocative power of visual media, but in the case of Salome, signals as well the limitations of sight as source of understanding and with discovery as mode of intellectual activity.

HAYWORTH: Well, Mexico apparently has decided rather than being an ally of the United States, it will be a willing accomplice in illegal immigration and now in the wake of the Proposition 200 vote in Arizona to make sure that government benefits are only going to folks with legal status.
HAYWORTH: Well, this is the point that several of us have made to the president individually, and we continue to make, because, Lou, it begs this question -- if folks won't obey existing laws, what makes us think they will obey any new laws.
HAYWORTH: And under this provision, if a Mexican citizen had only been legal one day, all that time when they worked illegally conceivably could be counted into a pension fund and could go in terms of Social Security dollars.

Hayworth notes that during 2004, 650 illegals from countries of national security interest, such as Iraq and Iran, were arrested by border patrol officers.
While Hayworth reiterated his support for President Bush's policies of tax reforms and his doctrine of taking the battle in the War on Terror to the terrorists, he emphatically stands against the President on this issue of illegal immigration.

$1 Trillion Budget Projection Could Wither [Free Republic]
Economists for the most part say even if the economy stumbles, the federal budget still would avoid the annual deficits that until last year were a budgetary mainstay for three decades.
That is crucial because the non-Social Security part of the surplus is what both parties want to use for their proposed tax cuts and increases for Medicare and other programs.
The Republicans, through Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-Ariz., demanded in the party's Fourth of July weekend radio address that the $1 trillion surplus be used as tax cuts to declare ``financial independence'' for American families.

The GOP plan (H Con Res 393) exempts tax cuts from pay-as-you-go budget discipline but requires entitlement spending hikes to be "paid for" by cuts or revenue hikes elsewhere in the budget.

Of 18 landslide projection errors, 13 races were still won by comfortable margins of greater than 10%, and none of these seats was wrong in its partisan projection.
Of the errors in projected margin, all but five were wrong by just one category of victory margin (meaning, for instance, a projected landslide winner instead was victorious by a comfortable margin of between 10% and 20%).
In reviewing our projections, what is particularly striking in addition to their overall accuracy is how the political landscape in 2002 is actually less favorable to challengers than in the years at the end of last decade’s redistricting cycle.

Up to this point, the various ingenious methods moviemakers had tried were just gimmicks that gave the industry a short-term shot in the arm but didn't necessarily serve the art of visual storytelling.
A year earlier, "This Is Cinerama" had created a sensation in New York, using three synchronized projectors to project a spectacular 146-degree panoramic image on a huge curved screen, which put the viewing audience into the middle of the picture.
Using a single projector, instead of the three required for Cinerama, a widescreen movie could be projected in any theater that installed a new screen and used an "anamorphic" lens to properly spread out the squeezed image.

And Welles offered plenty of defense for Cohn's negativity: he didn't, after all, stop bombshell Rita Hayworth, star of the box office smash Gilda, from cutting her hair to bits and dying it Hitchcock platinum, rendering her virtually unrecognizable to fans.
Welles stars as Michael O'Hara, an Irish thug seaman who rescues Elsa Bannister (Welles' then-estranged wife Hayworth), an enigmatic blonde, from rapists and accepts a grateful invite to work on her crippled husband's yacht.
Bannister (Everett Sloane) also ushers unstable law partner Grisby (a wily Glenn Anders) aboard, and in private, Grisby poses a $5000 offer that hard-luck (and in love, with the woman he saved) O'Hara be the scapegoat in Grisby's plan to fake his own death.

Since Welles wanted to create a film that was anything but a typical Rita Hayworth vehicle, he radically changed her appearance by shearing her trademark long auburn tresses and dying her shortened hair platinum blonde.
Welles is always fascinating to watch and the Irish brogue just adds to the mystique; Rita Hayworth simply smolders as the story’s femme fatal; Everett Sloane is unforgettable as the crippled lawyer and Glenn Anders is amazing in a performance that defies description.
However, the fl and white transfer is very crisp and an excellent representation of the film’s stark, deep focus cinematography.
