Hazel Grove is a village near Stockport in the North West of England, on the edge of the Manchester metropolitan area and close to the Peak District national park.
Notable features of Hazel Grove include the A6 road - a major thoroughfare running from London to Carlisle which passes through the centre of the village.
Other major employers are Adidas who have their main warehouse on the edge of Hazel Grove, and the nearby Stepping Hill hospital which is the main Maternity and AandE hospital serving the Stockport and South Manchester areas.

In Scotland, a hazel grove was calltuin, (modern Scots Gaelic calltainn) and various places called Calton are associated with entrances to the Otherworld, one being the famous Calton Hill between Leith and Edinburgh, which Was probably still being used for magical gatherings in the 17th century.

William Gregg, local historian, tells us that Hazel Grove was organized between 1867 and 1872 on J. Mahaney land, and that it was named for the Hazel Nut trees growing in the vicinity.
Gregg (and all 8 grades from Hazel Grove) attended Hazel Grove classes in Washington High School until a new 4-room building was completed (north portion of current building).
Hazel Grove was part of Phase I, which was completed in the summer of 2001.

This ran successfully until the 23rd June 1917, when it was absorbed by the 1st Hazel Grove Troop, an independent Troop with a large hut located by the path leading from Spring Gardens to London Road, it existed between c1915 - 1919.
The 2nd Hazel Grove Troop was re-formed at Wesley Street on the 4th June 1918, but despite initial success, lasted only a short while.
However, it was through the efforts of the leaders of the 2nd Hazel Grove that our founder - Harold Vernon (Chief) first obtained his youthful introduction to scouting.
