I had no expectation that Hazel would want to talk, but given that we were serious in our purpose of shifting attitudes towards Alzheimer’s and that her own decision to go public was similarly motivated, I wanted to give her the opportunity to rethink her decision.
Hazel thinks she’s a bit more independent than she actually is, Pieters-Hawke said then, “but if that supports her own sense of herself and her autonomy and her self-respect, then that is fine”.
